Hyakko

Torako, Tatsuki, Suzume, and Ayumi are all freshman students of Kamizono High School. They meet perchance outside of the classrooms. All admiring one another in some way, these four girls have something in common on their first day of classes - all of them are lost! With some frustration, bickering, and confusion they accidentally break a window. Only one person was a witness to this misfortune but brute Toraka clears up the possible consequences by giving him a mean uppercut!

It turns out that the only witness was their homeroom teacher. All four girls get in trouble yet build a friendship from that extraordinary event. The four, maybe a little bit more bashful now, will soon know the eclectic personalities of their classmates.

4 students running around a huge school, lost. One would think that this storyline serves no purpose, but the characters are charming and lively, making this series attractive. However, some of their personalities are a bit wanting, and it's easy to get annoyed with more than one of them.

At first it seemed as we had another Manabi Straight on our hands. However that's not the case as it's more of a comedy. Unfortunately it doesn't succeed as the humor can be somewhat repeating as you have the same kind of thing happen over and over again. And while there are 4 of them the character interaction so far is mostly just two of them while the others just tag along or one person interacting with everyone else. As it's only somewhat entertaining I wouldn't recommend it, that doesn't mean it's a bad anime, just that there's better to watch.

4 girls who meet at a new school, get lost, and end up having an adventure together, while trying to find there way to class. Sounds kinda Meh, at least to me. However watching it, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I tend to enjoy slice-of-life type shows, and thats what this seems to be. Though the humor is a bit repetitive, at least in the second episode, this is one I'm probably going to watch all the way through.

Alright, I really wanted to liked Hyakko. I read good things about it, and Hirano Aya was in it. I'm sad to say, I don't like the series at all. The humor didn't make me laugh much, and the timid personality doesn't seem to fit Aya's voice very well. The character designs are all that great to be either. I probably with give this another go some other time, but there are better series this season.

Outlook: Negative

Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens

When he was young, playing near a shrine, Jin met a shrine maiden, who mysteriously disappeared. Now years later, working on a school project, he carves a wooden statue of a girl, made from a sacred tree from the shrine. All of a sudden, the statue breaks apart, and a girl claiming to be a god is released from the wood. The girl, named Nagi now lives with Jin, while trying to purify the land.

Who would have thought that one of the people associated with TYPE-MOON (Fate/Stay Night, Shingetsutan Tsukihime) made this series? The main girl is particularly attractive in her personality, and right now it seems to be a somewhat promising series. I just hope that it doesn't nose-dive and turn into a typical romance-comedy from here.

While Nagi is a lot of fun she drives me utterly insane because of all the troubles she brings and her attitude towards Jin. If I was him I wouldn't have stood for any of that which is why I was quite happy when Jin finally snapped at her selfishness and attitude. It was one of those finally someone that doesn't just accept the abuse and really gets angry instead of being all passive and all. While I doubt that she'll get any better anytime soon it's at least a start that. And would you believe the absolutely non flashy way of purging the impurities this show has, a bit of a surprise and a welcomed one at that. Even with my complaints about Nagi I'm looking to seeing more of her antics and the interactions between the characters.

Can't say I enjoy this one as much as the next person. Well, I'm certainly capable of it, but I would be lying. Sure the characters are cute... visually. In terms of personality, Kannagi just isn't doing much for me. Her curiosity is cute, the one scene I really enjoyed was how her "exorcism" instrument was a mahou shoujo wand. That tickled me a bit :3 Everything else seems pretty standard and not praise-worthy. The art does not do too well with night colours. In fact, there is very little variation in colour. Perhaps they're going for a more realistic feel? There were some scenes that were quite nice, they did some extravagant work with lights/sunshine. That being said, art style has little to do with following up on a series. I've read how exciting people are about watching Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens aplenty, but I will have to give it a pass.

Having just watched the first episode, this is already one I'm hooked on. The girl is just too cute. And when I saw her literally coming out of the woodwork, I knew this would be one I wouldn't be able to miss. Can't wait for more Nagi! This anime has my new favorite OP, with a very cute Nagi dancing and singing. It edges out Sailor Fuku, though I still love that one. I do have to give a warning though. This is an Aniplex anime. You might get a C&D letter from them over downloading it. Up to you if you want to risk it.

I have to admit, that I was quite caught off guard by Kannagi. Prior to watching the anime, I didn't know anything about it. I was quite pleasantly surprised when I watched Kannagi and found it to be one of the funnier series this season. From the opening song to the ending, Kannagi doesn't fail to amuse. I really like the animation and the humor in the series. Nagi's seiyuu also does a great job at voicing Nagi. She displays a nice range of voices for the character and for singing. Kannagi is one of the top series for me this season.

Outlook: Very High

Kemeko Deluxe!

10 years ago Sanpeita made a promise with a girl, that when they grew up, they'd get married. Now, 10 years later, a short squat, weird girl, shows up claiming to be his bride. Despite looking nothing like the girl, and despite in fact being a robot. All of a sudden other robots show up looking for him as well, the only thing protecting him and his classmates, is Kemeko, his robot bride. Except the robot opens up, and out pops this beautiful girl...

Interesting blend of romance, humor, and sci-fi. It even counts as a Harem with what looks to be a good amount of fanservice. When a short robotic girl shows up to save the main guy, dressed as a bride, wielding a minigun. Its hard not to laugh. Unfortunately the story seems to be trying to become a bit more serious. With this, it begins to fail. I downgraded this show from High to Moderate after watching episode 3. I'll keep watching, at least for now, but unless the humor is taken up a notch, this show won't last beyond episode 4 for me.

After the first episode, I almost crowned this the funniest series of the season. Good thing I watched the 2nd episodes, because KD! is definitely not the funniest this season. The 2nd episode wasn't nearly as funny as the first. The first episode was just so random that I was thoroughly amused through the episode. The 2nd episode however wasn't as random nor was it as funny. The 3rd episode revealed some more information about Sanpeita, but a lot is still left unexplained. One thing I really do like about the series is the opening and ending scenes. The scenes and music are quite amusing. I'll give this series a few more episodes before I officially decide.

Outlook: Somewhat Positive
