Claymore

April * 26 Episodes * Madhouse

Bloody and insightful, Claymore is a series that only the faint of heart cannot enjoy. You get swordswomen with awesome fighting strength, great character development, and even likeable villains. Clare and Raki round things out nicely with their tragic pasts and, as mentioned, their character development. Claymore is a keeper.

In Claymore, a girl tries to allow herself to care for another person while walking the dangerous path of revenge. She must deal with her troubled past both in settling the score, and living her life in honor of the woman that made it possible for her. A very interesting tale of sacrifice, power, and friendship (and don't forget really big swords) this is a show you don't want to miss.

Despite the weak ending, Claymore is and still remains a great anime. I admit, I have a weakness for medieval themed anime and Claymore almost delivered everything I expected. At first, Claymore looks like your average "Monster of the week" kind of anime but it quickly become something more interesting. And the most refreshing thing about Claymore is the way; the author is portraying strong females characters for a change.

I always seem to think that everything that could be done with demons and swords has been, and then a series like Claymore comes along. It draws you in from the start, immersing you in the world of Claymores and demons. Along with the action and storyline, the show provides an excellent look at human nature, showing both the ugly sides of fear and hatred as well as the better sides of humans, such as loyalty and compassion. On top of it all, Claymore has a rich list of characters, and doesn't fail to develop them. All I can say is I hope they come out with another season.

Maybe it is because a change of taste, Claymore seems to be one of the few action anime I really picked up. Other than the hacking and slashing goodness an action anime should offer (which it did splendidly), the difference between Claymore and many other anime is the story structure. More episodes are devoted into each story, which makes the campaign much more detailed and complex (also makes audience REALLY want to know what is next). Instead of a short skirmish with recycled scenes (Ahem, GSD) or stuffed with many flashbacks (Ahem, DBZ), fighting scenes were truly packed. Actions make this action anime truly wonderful.
