Zero no Tsukaima: Princess no Rondo

Very funny, great action, great story, and just as good as the last 2 seasons.
LovelessFate
Although not as great as the first season due to the "cheap use of death" where once dead characters are resurrected, it was still quite a laugh, the fact that 2008 didn't hold that many great comedy.

The reason why I vote for this anime is because of its fun and laughter brought by the two new Louise's love rivals: Tabitha and Tifania.

Casshern Sins

It's truly a top ranked anime in my book in every aspect. Awesome storyline. Still gets more intresting per episode. They need to make more animes like this.

Action Anime of 2008. Just can't beat how smoothly Casshern rips through robots' midsections... wicked anime.

I didn't expect much, but I really liked the deep feeling this anime gives to the viewer.

Aria the Origination

Aria the Origination serves as an incredibly powerful conclusion to the best pure slice-of-life franchise in anime. What's not to love about that?

It really is hard to give a proper reason as to why Aria is such a great series. It has such a simple premise and no real 'plot'. In fact you could watch the first few episodes of the first season and the final 6 of the last and still find out what 'happens'. But if you spend the time to take in what Aria has to offer then it'll all be worth it. You get to see the characters grow up, achieve their dreams, and what happens afterward. Aria doesn't have complete closure, because that would mean that its over, but rather, it's just another beginning. So I thank Aria, for without it, the world would be a duller place.

I remember seeing some very positive reviews for the first 2 seasons of Aria back when Origination was still airing, curious to see what the hype was about I decided to watch the first two seasons. The first 2 seasons were very well done, I didn't go like "OMGWTF this is beautiful" for Aria the Animation and Natural (I gave them both 8/10 score) but when I finally got to watch Origination, damn was I in for a total surprise. I realized the anime had completely finished, no more Aria, no more Akari and her little adventures on Man-home. I realized I wouldn't ever see them again and this made me feel some kind of "sadness" in me (believe it or not this is true =D). I realized that I was in love with the world created by Kozue Amano. The nice peaceful world of Mars in the future and now its all over... I gave Origination 10/10 and of course, Origination became my favorite world lol. Definitely the best Slice of Life I have ever watched.

Vampire Knight

Most vampire animes are either violent series filled with constant bloody action or cutesy comedies. Vampire Knight is different. For one, it's shoujo, and the art is clearly thus, which is stunning. The designs of the characters Kaname and Shiki especially, were amazing, and among the best character designs I've seen. Second, the plot line, although filled with comedy, is dark and serious. Vampire Knight (along with it's sequel) is by far my favorite anime of 2008.
Coradee
Vampire Knight has everything a good shoujo series should: bishounen vying for the attentions of the main character, multilevel romantic tension, tragic pasts, bloodsucking... You know, the usual.

After knocking down my high expectations and watching it a second time, it's quite enjoyable. The OP and ED songs are well-picked, the animation is quite good, and the voice acting is not annoying at least. Knowing the seiyuu who voiced honda tohru was voicing Yuki, I was bracing myself for the worst but she definitely did a better job in this anime.

True Tears
Savara
I actually didn't think this was in 2008! It seems ages ago that I watched it... True Tears is one of my favourite anime of all time. The story is quite simple, and quite ridiculous, but this series made me love drama anime. It excelled in the simpleness of it all. I loved the female characters and while Yuichi is a bit 'boring,' it was so much fun to watch. I watched every episode twice, first without subs and then with because I wanted to get everything! I just loved True Tears!
Crain
This series is probably the best, if not one of the best straight-forward romance series of 2008. The characters, albeit not all likable, aren't suppose to be. They are meant to be 'real.' Call it stereotypical if you want, but when was the last time you've seen an anime that has characters you could see walking down the street and not looking like an idiot (okay, I lie, one of the characters walks down the street looking like an idiot, which is cute)? Some people say the anime is boring, too overdone, compared to series like Air or Clannad. Funny thing. True Tears doesn't have that fantasy element to help push the story along. All it has are it's own blood, sweat, and tears.
seefutbow
The best romance series of 2008. With really high production values and plenty of angst, True Tears really drew me into the show.
