Definitely mixed feelings on this one...
The main character, Saki, is cute and likable enough, and it's nice to see her ambition grow as the story progresses. As for the rest of the cast, I'm not a fan of any of them, with the exception of the all-knowing President. The art bothers me at times. Bright and garish colors are used often within muted and boring backgrounds, and the character designs bother me. Nodoka provides some fanservice opportunities, and although it doesn't get too annoying (the rainwater dripping from between the legs was a bit much) it does make me wonder who exactly the target audience of this show is. The constant stereotypical 'wind in the hair' after every melodramatic declaration and the exaggerated 'shounen style' mahjong moves are funny, despite the fact that I'm not sure that they were intended to be. I'm not ready to drop it yet, but it's not on my 'must watch' list.
Outlook: Neutral

Moe girls playing mahjong as a sports anime… pretty much sums up the series. The problem is so far, the main character Saki didn’t display a huge amount of skill, she displayed a huge amount of luck. If you’ve played mahjong then you’ll know how rare a “tsumo after kong is. (I’ve played regularly for 2 years and got it only once. Ok, ok… I suck) The point is, I can’t really get excited in a sports show when someone wins with luck, not skill. I also find the lightning and thunder effects when they win very lame. The girls also didn’t struck me as particularly moe, just that each of them has a distinctly stereotypical trait.
1. Huge boobs.
2. Incredibly irritating chibi.
3. Different colored eyes.
4. Nekomimi.
5. Meganekko.
Though... the upcoming tournament looks interesting, so I might not drop it... yet.
Outlook: Negative.

When I first got news that this was being made into an anime I was excited since I've been following the manga. A week or so later I heard that GONZO were the ones making it... that's when I started dreading what would happen to this anime. Now that I've gotten the chance to watch the episodes I feel that it's pretty safe that I'll stick to the manga instead of watching this. While there's only minor changes here and there it changes enough things to make it less interesting, granted majhong might not be the most exciting game to make an anime on but none the less I feel that the manga accomplished it better than the anime. As there are far better sport/game animes out there I can't recommend this, what it fails most in is that similar titles like Hikaru no Go and Shion no Ou had strong characters and story where as here it's only sub par at best.

Sengoku Basara
The Warring States period of Japanese history was filled with many bloody battles between rival feudal lords. Sengoku Basara follows several of these clan leaders and their campaigns against each other.
We begin with Takeda Shingen, leader of the Takeda clan, who wants to kill his rival Uesugi Kenshin. Also desiring to kill Kenshin is Date Masamune, but the two are far from allies themselves.

Yet another game turned anime however unlike the other games that been turned to an anime this one is a bit different. Simply because the show is over the top nuts, the story is that of the classic tale of Nobunaga that I'm sure a lot of people will recognize but I'm sure you've never seen the characters of the story being so totally wack. Characters riding by standing on top of two horses riding up a vertical wall, wielding six swords, flying through the sky and who knows what. It also doesn't have much of a game feeling to it as that other RPG anime has because there's less of a set story and since it got some historical background it also lets the story to flow in a better way.
I'd say this is an amusing watch with a healthy mix of action and comedy together with a big cast.

Umm… girls taking guns and killing people. No blood and corpses involved, of course. I’ve enjoyed the medieval setting and the art style with a hint of the watercolor style they’re used in the game. The animation quality and character designs are pretty good too. It’s easy to see how things will progress from here, but so far it’s been pretty enjoyable, as it has somewhat a slice-of-life feel to it. There’s nothing really unique about this show, but I feel that this is one of the more enjoyable series this season.
Outlook: Good

Yet another RPG turn anime, as others out there I've played the game and right now I think that the flow seems somewhat awkward and things are remade to fit the story/fill up time. Welkin is pretty true to his character while Alicia is made more tsundere than she really is. One of the problems a lot of RPG turn anime has is that the pacing and the fact that the story is made to be experienced and not to be watched which makes certain things more off. All in all I wouldn't say that this is a bad thing but I'll stick to the game instead.

I am a fan of this great PS3 game. When I heard that this game will be animated into anime, I was very ecstatic. And from what I have watched so far, the anime is very true to the game, although some of it are shorten. I love what I saw and I will definitely follow this series through the end.
Outlook: Very Positive
