Originally I had just intended on giving out one grand prize (anything the winner wanted from Japan up to 3,000 yen), then give some random coins to the runners-up. Along the lines over the weeks, I've collected what little trinkets I could to put together some prize-packs as gifts of extra-appreciation. Here's what I amassed. I'll let the winners decide who gets what later on.
Random Animeness: a Full Metal Alchemist fan-book and bookmark collection, a Moonlight Cradle fan-book, some Pokemon keychain rings, and an item of Japanese wackiness, one of those magnets "Beginner" drivers have to put on their cars, haha. I also have some magazines pull-out posters that I'm willing to part with, so once I speak to the winners, I'll find out if anyone is interested.
Japanese movie flyers: everyone gets Harry Potter 6, Star Trek, and Terminator 4. I only have two flyers for the new Gurren Lagann movie. I tried to find more anime-related ones, but that was all the theaters had anytime I went. I might go again this week to see if the new Evangelion 2.0 flyers are out yet.
Weirs Schwarz Lucky Star TCG cards: I broke them into 3 piles (all 3 have the same basic few cards, but one of them has a couple added extras (top row)).
Weirs Schwarz Da Capo and Zero no Tsukaima cards: a handful of random cards for collecting.
Random Weirs Schwarz TCG cards
Lycee TCG cards: random cards of cute girls (and guys... mostly for AJ)
A special thanks to all who participated. I was really happy with the submissions, especially seeing how close to the target people could get based on the descriptions given in the blog over the last few months. I hope people were interested in this and will continue to keep up with the GTX blog. I enjoy writing it and I hope readers will continue to follow along to share in the joy. There are a sad number of cases out there were Assistant Language Teachers get put in crappy schools, so I find it important to give a lot of loving attention to the good schools that are out there. If you're thinking of becoming an ALT in the Japanese public school system, I highly highly advise you try to find a rural placement. That's where you're more likely to form bonds with the kids and get a more immersed experience.
Thanks again... maybe we'll do another one of these contests next year, now that everyone has an idea on what kinds of things can be done. Congratulations to all the winners!! ^___^
