"Toki wo Kizamu Uta" by Lia, CLANNAD ~ After Story OP
Yes, yes, xeno is a "Key/VisualArts" fan... hold back the shocking surprise that their latest masterpiece project has landed itself a place here. Though season 1's "Megumeru Cuckold Mix 2007" still reigns supreme in my heart, I simply love this song. It's back-and-forth pacing accurately reflects the emotion of the story and really helps us as fans get into the proper mood that each episode will invoke. Better still, the lyrics spell out only the most beautiful poetry you'll ever encounter.
BONUS POINT: It's performed by Lia, the most beautiful vocalist on the planet. This woman could read the menu at McDonald's and have it be a tear-inducing moment.
Pick #3
"Staple Stable" by Chiwa Saitou, Bakemonogatari OP1
The instrumentation for this song is pretty simplistic, but the beauty of the vocals make up for it immensely. It's a great fast-paced song that actually doesn't sound fast, if that makes sense. It doesn't really fit the show all that much, but as a standalone song, it's quite beautiful. The opening animation sequence is interesting... nothing less than expected of DIGITALshaft.
Pick #2
"PSI-Missing" by Mami Kawada, Toaru Majutsu no Index OP1
A while ago, I was checking up on what was newly available out on the music scene. I was curious to see what Mami Kawada had been up to, as she's one of my top 5 favorites. I had never heard of Toaru Majutsu no Index when I had found this song from it. And I still hadn't heard of it even as I listened to this song for months. It wasn't until I got uber curious as to what the actual animation looked like when I saw that this was actually the OP to what was essentially a Shakugan no Shana clone (same studio, to no surprise). Though all the music to Shana is beyond awesome (also performed by Mami Kawada), this song sits atop my favorites from the genre.
