of the community's fruits and vegetables,

yakuza sense.

This pair of young boys claim to have escaped from a research lab.

Final Scoring Summary

Episodes Watched: 6

Animation: Highly stylized in places with quick cuts and odd angles. Typical Shinbo fare; however, those turned off by Bakemonogatari's panels of dialogue won't find any of that here. This time, SHAFT's style of animation suits the series perfectly. 95/100

Story: Unlike many recent comedies, there actually is a story to Arakawa, simple though it may be. More interesting are the themes and questions that arise from this story. The series flows surprisingly well, despite being sectioned off into smaller 'chapters.' 88/100

Characters: The focus is on the two main leads, Kou and Nino. Different facets of their personalities and backgrounds are unveiled bit by bit from episode to episode. The supporting cast is fascinating, and we see different bits and pieces of their backgrounds hinted at as well. 90/100

Music: The opening is surprisingly cute, fun, and girly, slightly edging out the ending song by Suneohair. Both songs are enjoyable, as are the simple guitar riffs that make up the background music. 87/100

Overall: Arakawa Under the Bridge is a solid, entertaining series with interesting characters and great production values. Unlike my intial impression of the series, based on the first episode, I would recommend that most fans at least give this series a chance. 90/100

Recommended: To anyone who likes gag or situational comedy. Also for everyone who was initially turned off by the first episode, I'd recommend that you give the second one a try. This series gets a lot better once it gets going.

Not Recommended: For anyone who hates comedy series like Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei or Bakemonogatari, this probably isn't for you.

"Be sure to watch, okay!?"
