Welcome to the Hobbies Handbook.
Anime has come a long way from its origins in Japanese paper theater. Its distinct style and variegated storylines have given it appeal for many a non-otaku, allowing this once-Disney-influenced medium to separate and establish a solid, international fan base of its own.

Anime may have boosted the tourism industry, but that’s not all it has accomplished. With cosplayers, misused-yet-recognizable words (“I really like this pen, desu!”), and even franchise-only shops, it has truly spawned a culture of its own.
Here are some of the “anime-related” hobbies that fans participate in. True, they may be done by non-anime fans. Some, like eating with chopsticks, might just seem Asian. Yet, somehow anime has rekindled and reinvented the interest in all of these activities--in one way or another, for better or for worse.
