Voice Acting, Singing, and All That Jazz
Chapter 2 of The Hobbies Handbook by Chikage_Shampoo

Page: 5/7

4. How long does it typically take for you to do a voiceover?

Typically anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Some sessions are short, and some are long. Really depends on the script, how good I'm feeling, and how much time I have to spend. I try not to go over 3 hours as anyone who is really in it would be tired after going for that long. My standards are always high, so I don't cut corners and take as long as I need to get the right take.

5. If you could pick any video game or anime character, who would it be and why?

If he could voice an existing character,
it'd probably look something like this.

My answer is the same as most upcoming and pro voice-over artists and actors: the one that pays, because it pays and the role is officially my role. In all honesty, there are so many existing characters out there that I'd love to voice. I sometimes get a chance to do so with AVA friends and comrades, but to me, this is just practice. Landing official video game or anime roles that I can have fun with and also get paid for are really the ones I'd want to pick.

6. What are some of your favorite amateur voice overs and songs? By others? By yourself? Oh wait, you might be pro.

Hmm...I favor amateur productions that 1) aren't from a series that everyone is currently going nuts over and 2) are unique, in that no one else has done it before. I don't really want to pick and choose which ones are my favorites since many of the AVA, VAs, and singers I interact with fall into those two conditions. As for what I've done, much of it also falls into those two conditions, which makes it difficult~ haha! I guess I would have to say that my favorites that I've personally been involved with are "A Letter To Father,” "REILA," "Gemini," and a FFXIII Japanese dub that I did with my voice acting partner ichigoxcupcakes. All but the FFXIII dub were official roles of mine that each had their own learning experiences. They were all very enjoyable and memorable as well, especially "A Letter To Father" and the FFXIII dub. All four of them can be accessed from the playlists on my YT channel. As for singers, I do sing a little, but that's nothing compared to the many talented male and female singers I know of. Again, I don't want to pick and choose, but I do like to surround myself with people who are more talented than I am so I can improve.

For the record, I don't consider myself "pro" as of yet, since I don't make a living off of voice acting. However, I don't consider myself an "amateur" either since I've been cast in original productions with those official characters that will forever be branded with my voice. I'd officially consider myself a Pro Character Voice-Over Artist-In-Training or simply just a "character voice actor" (noting what I said earlier about there being a difference).

7. On a related note, who is your favorite seiyuu overall and why?

The classic, sexy Tamahome
is voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa.

I've had many favorites over the years. On the Japanese side, I'm currently pretty smitten with Mamoru Miyano and Kana Hanazawa. They're in everything these days, but I like their work and versatility. I'll always have a place in my heart for Daisuke Ono, Hikaru Midorikawa, Seki Tomokazu, Megumi Hayashibara, and Aya Hisakawa. On the American side, my favorites are the infamous couple Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt hands-down. They're simply an amazing duo that have really taken their acting abilities to greater heights on and off-screen. Yuri to me is like the equivalent of Seki Tomokazu, whom I molded my vocal energy and passion after. I'd be shaming myself for not mentioning the awesomeness of Crispin Freeman and Kyle Hebert. Those two guys have really given me hope for English anime dubbing. I really do favor them a lot and hope to work with them someday.
