As beautiful as the animation was in this series it was still outshone by its witty dialogue

Bakemongatari is one of my favourite animes ever and so just by association Nisemonogatari get my vote as well. No complaints about this next installment in the series except for that it ends, but I can live in hope for more :)

When I heard composer Yoko Kanno and director Shinichiro Watanabe were reuniting for a project since Macross Plus and Cowboy Bebop, recalling the wonderful mix of music and animation, I had to check this out. Go figure I'd jump into a musically enriched themed anime that helped show a coming of age story. The cast got to grow so much both around each other and the musical eras of 1960s from jazz like Miles Davis to rock about to rise with the Beatles. The music alone is a soundtrack to savour. Then you got the tumultuous times of Kaoru, Ritsuko, and my favourite character in the wild drummer Sentaro. They meet a bunch of others who will shape and change their views while growing up amongst the changes of the times, politics and love. The best thing about the show is that it didn't shy away from controversial topics, or try to simply write off a character's choice. Each decision from fights beckoning to the action of Bebop, to how relationships progressed or even split off made for a more realistic view of the times and the ever changing cast. It has so much emotion accentuated by wonderful music and animation well suited for the time period, it's a must see show at just the right length to show the life time of a wonderful cast of kids just growing up.

A fun loving slice of life anime. The setting of an older time period was unique and different. A good group of friends going through relateable problems of love and friends.
