Born in Tokyo on March 31, 1980. Maaya Sakamoto
didn't have any experience in voice acting when she was selected
for her first role in anime, and probably one of her most famous as
Kanzaki Hitomi from series Escaflowne when she was just 16.
From her role in Escaflowne, she worked with the great music composer
Yoko Kanno. Maaya lent her voice to many of the Escaflowne songs including
the Original Japanese OP song. Yoko Kanno enjoyed working with Maaya
and has actually helped Maaya become a popular singer composing most
of her songs which now spans four albums and numerous singles not including
her numerous anime songs. Kanno once described Maaya's voice was like
an angel's.
She continues to lend her awesome voice to various animes, video games
and of course... singing.
