Toshda and I arrived
at our Hotel Friday night. We missed the entire first day of the con. Our
trip up consisted of lots of music, some munchies and a friggin huge ass
blizzard. Even the cop cars were having trouble maneuvering in the snow as
we arrived in Columbus, Ohio.
We checked into
our hotel, the very nice Red Roof Inn Downtown
Columbus, late that evening...
and bitter cold. We were very happy to find some warmth.
| Saturday
morning we jumped over to the Ohayoncon 2004 convention in the
convention center across the street. As we arrived we saw many
great cosplay outfits. We quickly began looking around for the
pass booth where we could get our press passes. It took about 15
minutes and a little coersion because they didn't keep proper
records, but we finally got our passes.
Almost instantly
I headed over to the artist alley. One of my favorite places to
be because of the awesome art. You'll see some pictures in the
gallery below. There were quite a few artists present and most
of them were 'really' good. Some even had some Apple laptops. Pictures
of those are below as well.
We were hungry
so we stopped down at the food court in the convention center.
The Thai and Chinese were really yummy.
We met a cute girl, think her name was Emily. We had lunch with her
and a friend of hers, and followed her down to the dealers room
for some pocky and Anime funness. |

We
didn't attend any workshops during our stay at Ohayocon. However
we did attend some panels. First was the Inuyasha voice panel.
It was loads of fun. We were able to hear some of the voices and
such. I feel sorry for the voice personalities on that show. They
had a line for autographs from 2pm until 8 or 9pm that evening.
signing the entire time.
Toshda and
I eventually found the game rooms. Funk was strong. We ventured
in only once, and left quickly. Looked like loads of DDR funness,
and some cool fighter games and stuff. Not totally MY thing, but
hey it's all gravy baby!
Later we
found ourselves staring at some beautiful costumes. Some very elaborate.
Others very simple, but every one of them was gorgeous. See the
pictures in the gallery below. |

And then there was
Blood. Blood is a fantastic Japanese heavy rock band. They put on a great
show, with some awesome effects and screen images. They also had some really
horrible English thrown in on their screens. That didn't drag the effect
of their show down any though.
Toshda and I did
attempt to setup an interview with the Inuyasha voice crew as well as with
Blood. The Inuyasha voice crew's agent said he'd setup a time for us to interview
them and would call us (we traded numbers). The interview never materialized.
Blood was a bit
tired from having to fly all the way from Japan, put on a show, and sign
autographs... all this pretty
much non-stop. It's ok guys, we understand.
Next was the Saturday night dance. Normally these dances are
something which I look forward to. Toshda doesn't like to dance... bummer
cause the girls would flock to him that way, he's a good raver though.
We attended the dance briefly, and I had some fun there, but
quickly grew tired of this dance. I still can't explain why. Maybe it was that
someone tried to steal my coat. |

Sunday
was a short day for us. The snow from Friday's blizzard hadn't
started melting yet, and there was threat of another blizzard looming
above most of Ohio and Indiana.
We went and
took some pictures of Blood signing autographs. They seemed a bit
more relaxed, which was good. If Ohayocon had been more organized
for the press, perhaps you'd have an interview with them here,
instead no such luck, we didn't even get a poster.
All in all
the con was good. The atmosphere mostly friendly. And I just LOVE
that they has a Thai place in the convention center.
Saturday
night we'd gone out to a hibachi grill, it was FANTASTIC. It's
not too far from the Columbus Convention Center, if you're in the
area go eat at the Japanese Steakhouse. |
