Tokimeki Memorial ~ Only Love

October * 26 Episodes * Konami

Romance-School Life-Comedies are often shallow and unwittingly funny and I hesitated at watching this series. It was a right decision to follow this one as no other series of its genre has me laughing as much or as satisfied.

All I can say is this: Watch the first episode and if you can hold off not watching the next one, I will dress up like a woman and run outside screaming. It’s just too funny for me to not vote for it. Bunny ears, crazy school contests, a little chicken that can beat the hell out of anyone that messes with our main character and lots more. What? You don’t understand what I am saying? Well just go see the first episode and you will understand. But be careful not to fall too hard on the floor when you LOL.

I liked this show because it reminded me of how out of place I alway felt when I changed schools. My favorite character is Hiyoko-kun, the killer chick. A funny show.

Soukou no Strain

November * 13 Episodes * Studio Fantasia

KirbyMorph
Refreshing take on the mech genre of anime. Unique designs for mechs (almost insect-like) with CG/traditional animation that makes for a great style unlike other animes. No character is safe in this series either. Just when you think its finally settled down into a "typical" grouping, the creators shake things up again. Realistic characters and occasional comedy make this a great addition to the 2006 best-of's.

Xi-1
Yet another mecha anime, but with completely different style. The mecha and ship designs are completely original with realistic physics, as with the sub-light travel and momentum. The characters are completely original and have the room to grow and develop (always a good thing). What's more, as with a George RR Martin novel, you don't know who's going to be killed off next, so besides Sarah and Ralph it's difficult to see who the most important characters are. This intrigue can keep an audience sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting to see what's going to happen next. Stories thrive on tension, and there's tension aplenty, as Sarah seems to be set up against everyone else at one time or another. Definitely a well thought out and executed anime.

At first Strain seems like a normal anime, but then the suspenseful twists keep you awake. Then, jaw-dropped and left in shock by the end of the first episode, you only think of one thing: "what happens next?! when is the next episode coming out?".

.hack//Roots

April * 26 Episodes * BeeTrain Production, Inc.

Anonymous
It was badass, what can I say? Finally a .Hack with some action.

Anonymous
//Roots harkens back to those elements that made me enjoy //Sign so much. A more serious story than the awful //Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, and the series raises a lot of those questions and discussions which made me value //Sign, being an MMO player myself who spends much time in a virtual community. A worthy successor.

prokiller88
.hack//roots was a good anime, the story was very interesting; full of betrayal and lies.

ZegaPain

April * 26 Episodes * Sunrise Studios

ZegaPain.... this was a beautiful anime about hope, trust, and willpower. The animation was smooth and rich... the storyline felt hopeless, but there was always a way...so much to say about this anime, it really touched my heart...

This anime, I think, is best for teenagers. This anime deals with the struggles of life, and asking: What exactly is life? Is it worth living? The anime also asks, who am I? Who do I want to be? And many other questions that many teenagers deal with. I vote for this anime since I have gone through this thought process and liked seeing it replayed in a new world. This had enough action to catch my eye, but at the same time had enough drama to not make it boring or unoriginal.

ByakuyaSephiroth
For the first few episodes of this anime I felt as if I was being cheated into another factory product of Sunrise Studios again (I'm looking at you, Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny). But after the 8th episode, if I'm not wrong, things start to get complicated and the anime poses us this question: "What do we want for ourselves?: A looping life of our never ever seeing death or the limited lifespan which we will see death but be free?" This anime, using Buddhist, Japanese folklore and Western philosophies has attracted me further than anything else. On a side note, the characters here are really thought-provoking and they attract you to them... unlike certain people (Gundam Wing pilots are not sophisticated, in the name of the Emperor!!!!!). All in all, this is the dark horse of the anime season of 2006 and I hope Sunrise hires the scriptwriters and directors of this anime, in order for Sunrise to rise again.

Bleach: the Sealed Sword Frenzy

March * 1 Episode OVA * Studio Pierrot

akira2
Seriously, Ichigo looks awsome when he bankai's... especially in this version!

PallidPanda
Gosh, just seeing all the captains in modern-day clothing was fun (yeah, I'm a weirdo). The story like was good and Renjii was just as funny as always. It kept a nice smile on my face :D

ChiNammer
Did a great job at showing how powerful Ichigo can be when he puts his mind into something. Loved the fight scenes and story behind the sword.

Bokura ga Ita

July * 24 Episodes * Artland

Draegus
The best Love-Romance anime of 2006... It is mostly all about love and such... There exists some love triangles which of course, brings in some fun into the anime... as well as some other emotions, like hate... Grrr... damn love triangles. Pick up this anime if you're looking for a new Love-Romance Series... (Artwork: Decent, Voice Acting: Superb, Characters: Good setup, you have the best-friend, and the ex-girlfriend's sister.. yay :) )

kiwimishu
Another good story that doesn't leave you feeling empty at the end. The characters are real high school students and the story keeps you guessing who will end up with the girl right until the end. You never know for sure, but that's ok. The artwork threw me at first, but once you get used to the style, it's actually kind of appealing.

Every time I watch this anime I'm either saying "Awwww, so cute!" or I'm crying. It's a really nice drama/romance anime. The art is also nice; it's the minimalist style that I like. It’s a good combination, I really like this anime.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society

September * 1 Movie * Production I.G.

Anonymous
This is one of the best anime TV movies out there. It's very complex but yet it shows you what Section 9 would be like if Motoko left the crew. With the return of the Tachikoma and then Motoko herself, it really shows the power and confusion of what lies in the Solid State Society. You will be stunned to see what happens and amazed by all of the visuals and the lovely music by Yoko Kanno.

shiya387
Even though I'm not a fan of action sci-fi, this was an odd exception. When I was trying new things, I got caught up watching this thriller. I was so compelling that I couldn't take my eyes off it until the very end. It still remained on my mind when voting in this survey, so I've decided to dub this.

ByakuyaSephiroth
When I started watching this movie I had high expectations and it seems to have fulfilled them. From non-stop action to mind boggling theories on life, I felt as if I had waded through theories of humanity, yet not understandood it all fully. With an amazing score by Yoko Kanno and Origa again, it is no doubt a good movie compared to all the cheesy Hollywood movies, which are absolutely horrendous.
