Where can I get anime dvds for cheap? I recently got some online but they sucked. The subbing was messed up most of the time where it didn't make sense and they had a different group sub midway through the series cause the names were spelled differently. If possible I'd like to get authentic/legit dvds but I'm poor. I guess you get what you pay for....=(

sounds to me like you got suckered into buying some bootlegs. I had the same issue when I was first starting out buying anime... crappy menus, horrible misplaced, too fast subtitles. One was even MISSING episodes.
A hint that you're getting ripped off... most anime DVDs cost between 18 and 28 dollars with complete collections generally between $25 and $85... anything lower than that is probably too good to be true. Anything with Chinese subtitles and/or Region-0 is also suspect.
Anyway, to look at your question about where to get the good stuff, I coulda sworn we had a thread somewhere. Oh well, I'll whip up a guide:
www.animeonestop.com
PROS:
- most dvds are between $18 and $22
- complete collections are between $25 and $65
- you can buy good quality used dvds, too
- no tax
- free shipping in the US for orders over $25
- montly coupons (usually $5 off an order of $60 or $7 off $80)
- frequent buyer's club gets you free store credit
CONS:
- every so often, they miss a volume from a series in their catalogue
- for some people, using store credit with a credit card messes up the order
- they are slow to ship
www.rightstuf.com
PROS:
- support a-source.com by using this link: HERE
- they run some pretty impressive sales from time to time... including deals where you can get 25 dvds for $100 or 10 dvds for $50!!!
- very good selection
- free shipping on orders over $49
- their shipping is very fast, sometime stuff even arrives before the streetdate
- no tax
CONS:
- most of their regularly-priced stuff is about $26 and up... not bad, but not really good either
Buying DVDs at Retail Stores
- Best Buy
- Walmart
- Circuit City
- Sam Goody
- FYE
PRO:
- you get your stuff immediately
- you can hand-inspect the product to be sure there are no marks or scratches
- a few places have frequent buyer clubs or at least immediate discounts when you buy 2 or more dvds
- more likely to have sales... most of the ones I've seen are Buy-One-Get-One-Free sales
CON:
- you have to pay tax
- you have to drive there
- your selection is fairly limited, depending on how big their anime section is
- prices are generally higher, though some good bargains can be stumbled upon from time to time (I found the Stratos4 complete collection at Best Buy for $14.99)
Hope this helps. There are more threads in the Merchandise Section that might help, too. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
