there is a 14th episode if you must know... but that one is like the time line between episode 10 and 11... it does explain some stuff about lucy and that dude that is trying to get her...
so much gore, blood and nudity from the opening minute to the last fight near the very end... so nice.. _________________

Can anyone tell me how old was Lucy when the Institute captured her? Who was that girl friend who was shot and died in the end of OVA? Also, how long was she trapped in the institute before escaping?
Hmm... by looking at her long hair, i would assume she would have been living securely somewhere for many years (???) - 8years down the track after Kohta was hospitalised?
also, one thing that weren't explained properly was, "Is she really the Queen?" How can it be? Her vectors weren't out spreading her virus (or doing her first kill) when the Institute was doing the research on Diclonius. Can anyone explain?
for a 13 episode series Elfen Lied did great. It had character development. It had violence, a story line worth watching, and some unique ideas. the down part was the ecchi, but if you don't let that bother you then the series is much more enjoyable. But it coveres too much dark subjects to be truly enjoyable. (yes, i disapprove of pediaphilic scenes and super bloody deaths.)

she is the so called queen cause unlike other diclonius she can reproduce... the others infect hosts and have to wait for the next generation to produce the next line of diclonius... Lucy however can reproduce on her own... she does not need to infect anyone to be able to produce diclonius young... that is what makes her queen and the ultimate threat to the human race... _________________
I only got to watch a few episodes at the anime club at my old school... Man, this series is awesome. It was like an animated Tarantino flick. But yeah, I plan on getting the thinpak collection whenever it comes out (and whenever I get a job)

The manga isn't as good as the anime, in my opinion. I got bored.
But anyway Elfen Lied is the best Very gory yet romantic at the same time. Lucy is awesome ... I don't think it would have been as good if there were more episodes, though.

I don't see the ecchi as a downside. In fact I don't even see it as ecchi. There's a misconception in society that things like nudity automatically equate to sleaze. That's not the case. Nudity can be used... for want of a less cliched word... artistically, in all sorts of ways. To portray vulnerability, for example, or boldness, or subjugation, or all sorts of other things. Similarly, the violence in Elfen Lied doesn't automatically make it brainless. Just the opposite, it's there to provoke strong mental and emotional reactions. Enjoyment comes in being challenged by what you're watching.
Elfen Lied is without a doubt one of the best half season animes ever made, if not one of the best animes ever made, full stop.

I think "ecchi" in Japan is used to describe what is sexually oriented for the purpose of some kind of sexual gratification or perversion. For this reason, it takes the form of "fan service". Unnecessary, explicit panty shots are a good example.
I don't really see that in Elfen Lied. I mean it did have subject matter that was sexual in nature, but not for any sexually gratifying purposes. It was meant to disturb, to show the darker, and often animalistic, side of human nature. From what I gathered from the show, the focus of the anime was to show that people create their own monsters and that everyone, even those that have the odds stacked against them, are responsible for their actions.
Nana was supposed to help characterize this ideal, and we see even more of this in Lucy's depicted inner struggle with her darker self. She was never overcome by it. She willingly gave in to it due to other people's cruelty drawn towards her differences. Later, the doctor finalizes this ideal with his last words. He realizes that had his daughter only been given the love and warmth that every living person has a right to, she probably wouldn't have ended up the monster she became.

Probably. Although the anime does make the point that similar diclonius growing up in apparently loving families still ended up offing their parents...
One of the clever things about this anime is the ambiguity it displays in its portrayal of what is and what isn't a monster.
The latest episode of this Elfen Lied ( episode 14?), i think it's the continuation from the previous episodes(about 4th-5th?) because in 13th episode, lucy was killed, right? and maybe the one outside the house of kouta was a ghost of lucy who always tried to fixed the broken clock? right?
for me, i dont like the ending scene that lucy was killed by the army(SAT)..
Is there another season for this anime... I loved it!!even that the main character that i like the most was killed.. I downloaded the OST of this anime, its pretty good... try it at www.gendou.com- then search for Elfen Lied.. you'll love it, the song "be your girl" and "Lilium"
Im hoping for another season of this anime.........
