This is another slow paced, relaxed, well written anime that will get less attention than it deserves, overshadowed by action/comedy anime that fills the market. I love Mushishi, its refreshing, strange, nicely animated, and not overbearing in anyway.
I higly recommend. |

ep 7
This time they take one of the most wonderful sights in the world and twist it. The rainbow...
Well they say you can find a heap of treasures at the end of the rainbow, but what happens if you found a mushi-rainbow? The colours are almost beautiful in this one... but the last part, where the rainbow flew out and suddenly twisted... now that's beautiful _________________ ... |

| I was wondering if there is any mythological or folk legend basis for mushi, or if this is just from the imagination of the show's creator? If anyone has any info on this I would be interested to know. Thanks. |

Maybe this translation note from Mushishi manga would help explain it.

I like the series, first I thought it was going to be boring because I'm not interested in Those science-type anime. Then when I finish the first episode, I respect it. Hope it continues to be great, one of the best anime since FMA. IMO |

Episode 8
This episode is based on the old Asian legend about dragon rising into sky from the sea. I've heard this one before, when a snake ages old enough, it can rise into the sky from the sea as a dragon and create storms in the process.
Of course the anime twisted the old legend with lot of odd traits of the mushi.
The snake is many instead of one which combine and become one being. The sea around the ascending mushi snakes is placed into the mushi's own time frame, kind of like the Bermuda triangle myths. A different dimension with different time frame than outside world. People who get trapped in that sea spends only a day while a year has passed in outside world. I think there were some stories like this in western culture too. Some man spending his life time waiting in some strange house without realizing the time is changing. I'm not sure where I heard it though.

i just watched the first episode. left me feeling curious and a little excited
it did remind me of the mythological stuff from Spirited Away but is quieter and more contemplative in approach, like Haibane Renmei, except way more interesting.
i really liked the visuals. the character designs were nice and simple. the colour palette was beautiful (green is my favourite colour). |

| I love this series so far! the animation is gorgeous, and they really made a great job on the foresty settings. At first I never thought that it was set on those time periods based on Ginko's clothing =x thanks for clarifying that. |

I love how Mushishi takes the mundane details of life (such as the rumbling that occurs when you cover your ears and the strange lights you see when you close your eyes) and invests them with a magical significance.
I was just reading an article in the paper about the difference between literary fiction and popular fiction. Although the article is about writing in particular, i think it is relevant to why i like this anime so much
"This is writing that regenerates the world and makes me think differently about the sounds I hear at night. And, in my opinion, the phrasing is so original - not one pre-used sequence of words - that I, as an experienced reader, derive real pleasure from it...The durable characteristic in the best 'original' or 'literary' writing is that it's drawn from life."
my favourite episode so far is still the first |

Episode 9 was same as all other episodes. Did you watch other episodes on the same computer? Or did you make some changes in codecs?
About episode 9
This one was also a very unique story.
I like how every episode of Mushishi is so wonderfully unique and refreshing. I think the author has a very vivid imagination, I don't think I could think of things like these. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

| I fell in love with this series from the first episode, and I'm glad it's not being completely ignored. This is the kind of quality you don't really see in a lot of anime, and it's refreshing to watch. The plots are both well thought out and simple enough to be appreciated by everyone. |
