Same as before.

Another style that I have never been able to find a good guide for (style is a horrible word choice) is the older vs. younger style manga. I guess I'm talking about audience level. Some manga seems clearly geared towards younger audience and others towards older. I'm not even talking about graphic violence, nudity or language, I just mean the types of characters and the stories. Even the fantasy settings which I normally associate with younger manga can be geared to older peeps. I know there are mangas made in certain styles supposedly for guys and girls but I haven't found listings for younger / older audiences. If anyone knows a good way to search for that I'd also appreciate a reply.

I like older mangas because the stories and characters are more complex. I like some comedy but there have to be times of seriousness too. You can find ALOT of manga at manga.roel.no-ip.info. You should see if u can find what ur looking for.

what i like about older manga is the originality of the characters and story basement. modern manga are also verry nice but if you look brightly youll see theres been many copy and paste with some edit on them Very Happy

I prefer the new ones. For some, the older ones are quite a legendary, due to their complex story, but genenrally, the new ones have one advantage, that is their new and better designs and art styles. I read manga, to enjoy the look and story, and without the look, the story may just a bit dull in the end, no matter how thrilling it may appear to the others...

Both have good and bad things. However, i think i would rather prefer new ones. One reason is because it looks better (the layout, characters design and easier to read most of the times). Of course that people say that old ones have better stories and also have good designs but new ones also have good stories developed. I dont know. I read few old ones and it was too hard to read and visualize the pictures that i gave up. Maybe it was just the ones that i read. Rolling Eyes

Also that we are human beings. First impression is very important for people to continue reading what they want. Design and style is definitely an important factor.

I think older and younger mangas makes no difference if u just want to read manga, no matter how u try to divide the manga is to these to two group, there are plenty of things u find to divide.

I have to agree with CGY, but there is one big factor everyone is overlooking when you're comparing the 'old' vs 'new' manga. Back then those character designs were pretty good for the technology which was available. I mean, look at Lupin III. The graphics are horrible compared to the standards nowadays.
Nice, clean images are appealing for someone with a short attention span, but you need a good story to keep readers going back for more.
This is why I prefer some of the older manga over the newer ones. (Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of really good new mangas out there.)

for me the new mangas are alot better due to better graphics, but then dragonball and ranma were pretty amazing.

I tend to like newer manga better mainly because I prefer the art style. I also think that newer manga usually deal with ideas and themes that are more applicable to present-day life. On the other hand, there are a couple of older manga that have fantastic story lines and great characters so it's a tough call.
