I've just recently downloaded the most recent release of One Piece from Kaizoku-Fansubs. I must say, the video quality is amaaaazing. However, this new episode was encoded in x264 and they will continue to release the later episodes with this new codec. x264 is not h.264. h.264 is a guideline or a standerd and x264 is an open source codec, just like XviD is to MPEG4 ASP. This new codec shows greater quality for its size compared to XviD and it may eventually replace Xvid in the future. Though, there's a little drawback to this new format. It is much harder to decode and you will need a pretty fast computer. With my Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53ghz), 512MB RAM, and Geforce3 Ti200 64MB, the CPU usage averaged 50-60%. Not bad! Not bad at all.
The video I got was in .mp4 filetype rather than .avi. In order to play this file, you must have ffdshow installed. If you already have the recent K-Lite Codec Pack installed, then you should already have it. What I did was searched "ffdshow" through the Windows' file search (Window key + F). After getting result, there should be two folders called ffdshow (one from Documents and Settings and the other is from Program Files) and go open the one from Documents and Settings:
[img:152:104:480800362d]http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/8382/ffdshowsearch2km.th.png[/img:480800362d].
Double click on the Video decoder configuration, on the right panel, go to where it says h.264 and switch the option from disabled to libavcodec:

You will also need to install Haali's Matroska Splitter This program definitely works with the most media player that's being used today which are: Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, and VLC (VideoLAN). I recommend keeping the default options for the installation which is:

Anyway, this is just a future reference for those people who are interested playing x264 codec. |

Since there are tons of questions repeated about this problems, I decided to recycle this thread to become a question thread for any problems relating to any anime video format that you can't watch or hear. Please ask all of your technical questions here. _________________

What codec pack that you have installed in your system? The version number of your codec will also help.
Anyways, which anime you are watching? Which fansub? _________________

i read on the internet and no solution comes for me...there's only a solution for windows xp pro...click in add hardware in control panel...but im using another kind of xp...i tried and it is different..any suggestion??

The reason your videos were upside down is because you probably have accidentally enabled to setting to flip the videos upside down. This setting can be found in your FFdshow (which you can access through the little icon on the bottom right of your screen, next to the clock) or XviD configuration.
DivX 6.4 (and the previous versions) specializes mostly on video codecs and not audio. I believe you will still need to download and install a bunch of audio codecs that's missing in DivX 6.4 and are already included in codec packs.
So your choices are... reinstall or updated with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (it's 1.59 now), install a different codec pack like CCCP which is very well known here, or stick with DivX 6.4 and look for necessary audio (and most likely video) codecs yourself that Microsoft doesn't supply.
According to this site, your solution for the ADPCM problem should work on almost any kind of Windows instead of just Windows XP Pro. It also states from that site that re-installing your system components or updating your DirectX should fix the problem. |

Make sure that you uninstall your codec pack and restart your system after you have uninstalled the codec. After that, like thug said, install the codec pack of your choice.
Suggested are CCCP, K-Lite Codec Pack and the Mega Codec Pack, but seriously, CCCP is more than enough for most video playback. If it is not enough for you, K-Lite Codec Pack is good enough. _________________

Yes, they are able to as long as you have installed the codec. _________________

| hmm...the thing is, i was watching azumanga daioh from KAA fansubs and i believe they are encoded in 264, but there are some parts of the anime where the screen would freeze in one spot or it would lag behind the sounds. |

Recently, when I try to play my anime, a warning pops up saying
[IMG:150:142:1a599c3eab]http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/5172/11242006134559iy8.th.jpg[/img:1a599c3eab]
I think it might have been because I was cleaning out my registry, but now I can't seem to get it to work anymore, I've even tried re-installing CCCP, but it still keeps poping up saying that I'm missing a filter/codec.
Man, the one time when I can actually watch anime and I'm unable to
EDIT: Nm, I just had to restart my computer in order for it to work XD |
