I've grown quite fond of coloring lately so ....
This was the work i've done for mangadownloads coloring competition... the result are out..so i permit myself to post it here... (though the winners name are not announced yet).
I'll make sure to tell you guyz if i ever win something.. which will be hard since im pretty much a beginner
If you want to give any comments feel free as i'm trying to get better for each new coloring i do (the one im currently working on is quite nice.. ill post it here later )
Anyway.. enjoy !

Yes yes!! Great job!! Woooow~!
Although you could've used some cleaning up. If you're using Photoshop, go use the "Smart Blur".
It works big time in smoothing out any rough edges, jagged lines and dirty extras in pictures.
Try it! _________________ EX-mod |

Thank's for the advice... i try not to blur on photoshop because it kind of take off the sharpness of the details.. id rather vectorise everything but i guess im not allowed to since its a contest coloring.
Ive tried to do it to the maximum threshold to see how it goes (on the original raw) and it renders pretty well.. but it gives a "watercolor" look to the picture.. but its definitively looking good, and the clouds looks good too. I think ill make good use of this tools on my next works
NoyPi: please don't look at me like a beginner. I want people to judge my work and tell me what should be added/changed in order for the pic to look like a good coloring
Thanks for the help guys _________________ le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ignore |

I'm glad you think that way. Yes, we must not look at ourselves as a beginner. We must be confident on whatever we do.
(I feel so guilty )
Anyway, I really am thankful that I've contributed in a way. Why don't you try increasing a picture's contrast before coloring it? Whenever you increase contrast, the black outlines get darker, and the blank parts get whiter.
So that whenever you use Magic Wand, you don't have to use a bigger threshold. It's easier to color when the white parts gets whiter, and the black parts gets darker, as they are supposed to be. _________________ EX-mod |

Thanks for your advice... but as a casual editor for my team, i'd say you shouldn't use contrast to try to make your picture clearer because it will not make the picture very nice.. instead you can use a tool called leveling that does the job better.
For example, by contrasting to take out the light gray areas, all the color will change... the white areas will be whiter.. but the black areas will be as well...
But when you level, (talking about the grayscale mode) you are tweaking either the midtones (gray), the blacks or the whites which helps better than contrasting.
Another technique would be to replace the colors to a certain degree (for the whites) supposed your drawing doesn't have colors and that the lines are relatively simple.
As for the magic wand i never use it... i'd rather use the pen tools which help you slice the picture/select an area/create lines and save them for reusage very efficiently.
And when i color.. .i don't color over the same layer.. but instead i use separate layers for the clothes, skin etc... which are under the original picture layer (which is set to multiply)
Thanks for helping.. i hope i could help you or other people as well
By the way.. good news!! I won a prize for the contest :>>>>>>>>> \o/
im happy _________________ le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ignore |

What do you mean by quality?
I'd like to know more about it... is it the lines around the persons clothes? (I was lazy cutting throught the black clothing of the original image ) _________________ le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ignore |
