satanism does not necessarily involve worshiping the Devil
let Wikipedia be the answer to all your questions

*read the wikipedia article*
ooooooooo spiffy~
but if it's taken in the religious form
then wouldn't it be called atheism?
... defined as the lack of a religion?
...
and if as a philosophical form...
wouldn't it be called existentialism? |

Well i dont want to doubt wikipedia here cause that almost blasphemous.. heh but when it sais

| Satanic cults (so-called "Gothic Satanism"), the Satanism that Inquisition-era accusers believed was being practiced and which is closest to the common impression of Satanism, and involved tales of murder and baby-eating, is not known to be practiced in the world today in any formal sense. |
thats not entirely true. A few years ago some guy killed his parents as a final initiation to satanism following a set of beliefs which baisically were reverse commandments. Him and a friend would engage in a series of unfortunate deeds to humiliate god and bring them closer with a satanic diety. Eventually the guy was caught, tried, he spent a few years on death row and eventually was executed. So while wikipedia might be right with

hmmm i try not to post on these types of threads but i just cant help myself.
irakih> wouldnt the non religious form of Satanism be kinda like atheism? i have no idea...maybe its different because it is specifically concerned with the agency of the individual. similar but different. about the philosphical form of satanism i again have no idea...i dont understand existentialism properly
Reeder5002> hehe yah Wikipedia is a holy text! i think by formal sense, the author means there is no organised practice of that form of Satanism. the guy and his friend were acting alone. and about devil worship. i think some satanists only follow 'the devil's' example. meaning that they are attached to the idea of the devil rather than the entity with is the devil. |

Do you mean satanism as in "Aleister Crowley" (the coolest guy ever to come out of my school) spiritual/ arcane satanism or the kind of new age pagan/agnostic, earth worshiping paganism? Is this satanism as prescribed in the Black Bible?
Don't ask why i know so much about it... |

Wait till you start reading the wikipedia entry for Aleister Crowley and the folliwing of "Thelema". I fully expect you to be quoting "Do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" and "We are all stars" within the week.
Don't disappoint me |

There are many forms of satanism as there are many forms of Christianity but i think theese two are the most common:
1. A.Crowley form
2. My Lord And Master Is Mr.Evil
1. I have read the black bible and imho it was just normal bible turned upside town plus some kinky rituals (wanking etc.).
2. They worship Satan as the lord of darkness etc. But i wouldn't say they are all involved in "dark" rituals. There always radicals in every religion. Some years ago i heard that some chick in UK murderd his children or something because God told her to do it. |
