I'm trying to think of anime in which old characters from other series are placed in entirely different situations, as if they were completely different people from their previous incarnations.
The purpose of this is for an article that I may possibly write. However, I am having difficulty remembering appropriate examples. So if anyone could think of any others then it would be most appreciated.
Those that I have so far:
The most obvious example is CLAMP's massive crossover work, Tsubasa Chronicle, where the characters are taken from not just one but several other series.
Also, the brand new Mai Otome, in which Mai-HiME characters are shuffled around and placed in an entirely different universe (albeit retaining several links to the original).
Although it was only a manga, and a very short-running one at that, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days was based on the brief High School Alternative Reality sequence during the final episode of the original anime.
Though not to the same obvious degree as those above, there's also the Tenchi Muyo! multiverse, in which each different series provided slightly different backstories and/or storylines that saw no need to correlate with one another.
I've come up at a dead-end there. Any glaring examples that I've missed out? _________________

And what is it with their conversations? "Did you know that? Did you know about this? You didn't? Really?" That's not a conversation! It's just a bragging tournament!
Watch Tsubasa Chronicle and u will see characters from alot of anime like Sakura and Syaoran from Card Captor Sakura Chi from Chobits the dimensional witch from xxxholic and so on and so forth
In Satoshi Kon's works, the creator of Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent, he usually has a similar female nurse character which I know has been in Paranoia Agent and also Toyko Godfathers.

so, your(the host of this thread) point is characters which are placed in different situation, enviroment and an extreme change of personality.......
well, other than the titles u think, maybe u want to check on futakoi alternative. Quite similiar to the style of how mangakas change Evangelion in Girlfiend of Steel 2.
on other referances, u may want to check on doujins(the non-H ones) or go to search in Fanfic websites. they are pretty useful i think....
