A very good movie for those people who have been through what the Marines in the movie are going through. I relate to a lot of that stuff, and have been there and felt the feelings. Not as action packed as I thought it may be, but not dry and boring.
It is based off first Iraq war, and on that note, I think those people inthe movie should feel blessed that they saw as little as they did. It is so much different now, and so much more tense/intense in Iraq. To all my brothers (and a few sisters) hoorah, and God bless. For those still out there, good luck, I pray for your safe return.
*salute* |

| yes! it was also quite hilarious at some parts. Maybe because I understood the jokes, but yes. A fairly accurate depiction of attitudes and general life in the Marine Corps. As far as comraderie and boot camp anyhow. They dont show much of normal life, but training, is accurate enough. |

| I would definitely recomend this movie if you are someone who is curious as to what life is like for people in war, historically inclined, or those who are looking for an entertaining movie. I would not recomend it if you are looking for a lot of blood and guts or pure violence. |

my sister is in the marines, but she just got in last feb. if i'm not mistaken this movie takes place from the beginning. please let me know if this is not the case. at any rate, i'm curious to know (from those of you that are marines and might have been activated during this time) how different it is now compared to then and for what reasons.
by the way, i'm on my way to see it this weekend and i'll report my perspective from a civilians point of view---not like it matters.
peace. |

Hey, that is cool. I really look up to Marines, and hate it when people talk trash about them because they do their jobs as soldiers. I want to enlist when I am of age
Jarhead is a really cool movie for me because I don't see much of war movies, mainly Apocalypse Now: Redux, Saving Private Ryan (I have not watched this yet ), Enemy at the Gates, Rules of Engagement, Wind Talkers, We Were Soldiers, etc.
None of that Hollywood stuff. |

First I would rate it a 10
Second Hollywood tends to golify war and make war movies quite a bit more far fetched then war really is. But this one did a good job keeping away from the glorification and left it semi-more personal. |

I went and saw Jarhead recently, thought it was a pretty hilarious movie that reminded me of Fullmetal Jacket in the sense it follows the same group of marines in their war.
Its a bit for the mature audience, doesn't glorify war and gives a look at the marine's life.
Good move overall. |

hollywood has stopped trying to glorify war in most of its films. hollywood knows its not 'cool' or trendy to do that.
hmm, but maybe they kind of do, indirectly. they stress ideas of sacrifice, duty and loyalty which glorify the soldier. so that glorifies war in an indirect kind of way. its not quite the same though. |

i just recently watched and i thought it was very funny in some parts and definetly not a movie for kids.
a couple problems with the movie is that I personally wanted to see some fighting (i know there wasnt a lot of ground combat but come on just a little) and secondly i wish it would have had some explanations of what happened with each of them after the war was over. |
