WTH is bluetooth and what's it purpose? heard it is for wireless capability but im a bit confuse(explain please).

ALSO i have a gateway notebook and was wondering how i could get it to connect to the internet(router?wireless card? huh?) ***i have dsl***

THE best virus protection out there is?, or most use/perferred?

What I mean is how does a labtop wireless connection work, and how does it work when your in a diff state? please explain to me so i can understand and get my notebook up and running!, THANKS!!!

Bluetooth is for short-range wireless connections. For stuff like headsets, cell phones, speakers, PDAs etc. I guess you can also hook up PCs by that but it's more common to use WLAN (wireless local area network). If your notebook has a WLAN card, you can connect to any access point you like if you know the right username/password. To set up one in your home, you need a WLAN router. Remember to configure it (password etc.) so that only you can access the internet through it since you have no control over the range. If you don't have a password, people on the street could use your internet connection or even get data from your pc. You could of course do this yourself if you're away from home, but... it's illegal. At least in Germany, it's considered thievery.

If you've got a cellphone with internet capability and bluetooth, you could try to connect your notebook to the internet through the cellphone. But I've never tried that.

For virus protection, rule #1 is "Use your head. Never click yes in any dialogue box coming from the internet. And don't open files that are sent to you via mail from persons you don't know." Other than that, you should use a firewall like ZoneAlarm or something. A well configured router counts as a hardware firewall and is safe if you apply rule #1.

thanks a lot, but i was wondering if you were in another state and you wanted to access the internet. how do you access the internet when your so far away from home/out of range.
