Wow, I learn a lot of new things from the lists of questions when doing some research. Looks like I am considered a newbie to building my own PC ^^ _________________ Innocent Tranquility

i was talking about like transferring data from one computer to another using a cable instead of like discs and stuff
cuz i remember my uncle doing something similar to this when his comp crashed

Sure you can. You just need to get a USB cable that are both male on both sides. Here are some other alternatives:
-USB ethernet adapter
-parallel cable that connects to your parallel port (printer port)
-serial cable (you usually see the ports named as COM-1 or COM-2)
-reversing ethernet cable (also known as direct cable)
All of these alternatives are designed to add-on another system, one being a controller and you can transfer files through these. Here's another alternative. Slightly different but very common: using an ethernet hub like a switch or a router and connect both computers (or more) through ethernet cables.

Aaah, if you need to transfer from one computer to another without using the router, then you need to have a cross-over RJ-45 LAN cable. This one looks like your other LAN cable, but the arrangement of the cable colours are different from your normal straight RJ-45 LAN cable that connects from your router to your computer.
After that, you need to share your folder in your computer that you want to back up and then, just type "\\<computer name>\<shared folder name>" then you are ready to go. Of course, you need to make sure that you have setup your network environment in Windows. _________________ Innocent Tranquility

I'm in search for a good laptop. My budget is around US$900.
I'll be going back to Oregon to get a laptop because its tax free there. I would want to know some suggested brands, and its features please if possible. I will be using the laptop for games (Ragnarok, CS, NHL 2k6 and so on) and animes. _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. I'm not exactly sure about brands, but I would certainly try to stay away from Dell products. Any video cards in a laptop that you see in catalogs or stores that has Intel Centrino (also known as Celeron M) or AMD Sempron or Turion should be able to meet the gaming and anime needs you listed. Try to get at least 512mb if it's going to be a gaming laptop. If you can, upgrade to 1gig or more. This will help you and your slow hard drive a lot T_T. Speaking of hard drive, you should ask the person you're buying it from what the hard drive speed is. 5400rpm looks like the fastest one out there in the market, but they don't usually come with the brand name laptops compared to the ones you costumize yourself. So you'll probably have tough luck with that :X. If you have internet connection in Oregon, try to research about the laptop you're planning to buy before hand and read reviews about it. The reviews will usually tell you about their battery life. solidness of the casing, and other pros and cons. I think that's all I need to say...

But hearing that, only Dell laptops can offer you that amount of price for that kind of specification, thugangel.
The fastest speed of laptop harddrives in the market are 7200 rpm, but usually, it is only used in a pricier laptops. _________________ Innocent Tranquility

Js3yk, here in the U.S., there are a lot of competitiveness going on and there's always a new one starting. Actually, Dell is one the most expensive brand out there and yet the quality of their products isn't so good. The reason the company is still running well is because they have contracts with businesses and schools where they're making good money. There's a lot of big local electronic shops in the U.S. like CircuitCity, CompUSA, Office Depot... And I just recently checked the weekly ads from Best Buy (which you could also check online) and here's what I found from the front page:
TOSHIBA Intel® Celeron® M Processor 380 Notebook with DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive

Wow, an ATI X200M. I just recently fixed a laptop with X300M installed and this laptop is installed with Doom 3, FarCry, Half-Life games, Final Fantasy XI, and some other. Surely, the ad I just posted could play pinay's RO, CS, NHL2k6, and solitaire. This is way better than integrated video cards that most laptop come with.
Yes, 7200rpm hard drives for laptops are the fastest and they have been on the market for a long time, but they're still rare. The old 7200 rpm hard drives didn't make it because the speed is so fast that it would drain the laptop's battery life right away. The new 7200rpm hard drives have been made to consume less power, less noise, and even improved performance. But these are just recently done therefore they are expensive. The average consumer gets 5400rpm as the highest IF they're lucky. The brand names usually put in 4500rpm where they could make profit off.

Aaaah, in Singapore, it is the other way round. Dell is actually the cheapest model compared to Toshiba or other brand names ^^;
Yeah, the latest HDD with 7200 rpm is mostly on Fujitsu models. At least, that is what the market offers here in Singapore.
Looking at the statistics that you state above.... Celeron.. I really do not trust that to be a good processor for gaming. The graphics may be good, but the processor does not really support a lot of games. For anime, I think that is sufficient enough. And wow, at only US$500, that is dead right cheap _________________ Innocent Tranquility

yup, and sold out too, circuit city has the same model for $599 but its not something that i'm looking for in a laptop, though i am looking for one, any good places to look for them? _________________ [img:387:120:36cb7a5440]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/idjota/BL.jpg[/img:36cb7a5440]
You may be thinking about the old Celerons when everybody was saying that it sucks. But the new Celerons have improved and up to par (sometimes even better) than AMD Semprons for both being budget CPUs. But this is in the desktop competition. In mobile, it's a complete different story. Celeron M is based on Pentium III architecture and beats down Pentium IV in design. And this is a mobile processor we're talking about being compared to a desktop processor. Actually, Intel's trying to bring Centrino into the desktop world. But right now, they're focusing on the first dual core CPU for mobile to market (Centrino Duo).
The new Celeron (also known as Celeron D) can play a lot of games, some even the highest-end games. Just not in the quality probably you would want to play in. As for notebooks, you can't go wrong with Centrino.

Bummer. What are you looking for in a laptop? Maybe you're looking for a tablet PC, perhaps? lol. I say just keep checking those weekly ads or maybe buy one used. People usually hate PriceWatch but that's where I usually buy my stuff because I don't want to deal with mail-in rebates and stuff. And you probably have heard of Newegg.com. I like their costumer reviews.

i was thinking of a tablet pc but they are a bit too expensive right now, i'm not planning to buy the laptop in the next 2-3 months so lots of time to look around and prices are going to drop ^_____^
i know about newegg, bought most of my parts for my desktop from there, i don't use price watch that much but i'll give it a try, and i also don't like dealing with the mail in rebates _________________ [img:387:120:36cb7a5440]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/idjota/BL.jpg[/img:36cb7a5440]

yay i got my new comp thx guys
but the new question is wat is a good 2 piece speaker dont got room for things like 3 pieces
If you are talking about a 2.0 speaker system, then go for Altec Lansing. If you can at least get a 2.1 speaker system, grab that instead, but there is one additional subwoofer in addition to the 2 main speakers. _________________ Innocent Tranquility
