Full metal panic manga

Ok .. I was doing some research ..and I got confused when I read this

So far the series consists of 5 long pieces (6 volumes) plus many shorties (published in additional 7 volumes). The long pieces are supposed to compose a grand novel which shows till the end of the story of Chidori, Sosuke and Mythril. At this moment the 8th volume of shorties is expected to be released in April 2004, and also its 6th long piece has begun as a monthly serial on Dragon Magazine published by Fujimi Shoboh co.

The website also states the fmp season 1 was based on the first 3 of the long pieces and fumoffu was based on the shorties .. ok the question I got is .. are the long pieces actually novels .. or manga ? .. and secondly .. the manga being released by adv are the shorties which fumoffu was based on? .. or the long pieces .. the reason why I asked this is because I am actually interested on finding out what ahppened at the end of season 1 .. meaning .. what happened on the remaining 2 long pieces. iv read a few of the adv released manga, and they definately are based on (or mayb the base for) fumoffu. but if memeory serves me correctly, there were still bits of the original show's storyline doused here and there (ie. sousuke is protecting chidori). i havnt come across these "longer" ones, so i cant really help much there - -;;

www.stoptazmo.com only has through chapter 7 any one know where i can get it past that.
