Actually never. I've always wanted to learn though. I've heard it's good self-disipline and you learn how to take care of yourself better.

I am glad that my instructor didn't go easy on us. Theories and people letting you practice moves on them is one thing, but putting it into practice is another. For us, belts were also meaningless, it was a way to sucker people into money and he discourage "belt test" which consist of useless forms. Martial arts for the most part is self-defense, and without a lot of sparring most people won't be able to use it when the situation arises. Nothing feels better than landing a clean kick, and nothing teaches you after to not do something when getting hit in return.

For us, the belts were for rank and shows the what level difficulty of Karate you know. I suppose your class all did the same level, even the new commers right? Without belts, the training class is less organized and is more time consuming. Belts also allow you to join tournaments under your own category.

Gosh!! it has been my dream to excel in it!!(one of my many dreams tat din happen) i did not get any chance 2 learn in my earlier yrs coz my grandma forbade me. now tat i finally get to learn it through scholl.. i figure tat i'll never excel in it.. after yrs of piling on weigh, laziness, no self-control/dicipline n not to mention uncomfortable atmosphere n not serious environment... *sigh* there another shattered dream... i really wanted to get serious of it... guess learning from scholl is not the best alternative....

So you quit because of that? If your answer is yes, then you shouldn't have joined any form of martial art... Getting kicked in the head is mandetory for practicing fighting.

I believe the term was Capoeira. I was first introduced to that style by the game Tekken as one of the strongest characters (Eddie), used an unorthodox style of fighting. He was like a breakdancing killing machine and thus was the style Capoeira.

you know your stuff. yes capoeira is the brazilian martial arts and it was created by the slaves that were here.. they werent allowed to learn any form of self-defense so they created a style that was thought to actually be dancing. So all that time the owners thought they were just dancing they were actually training haha.. brillant...

Ah, thats also explained in the game Tekken because the character Eddie learned his Capoeira skills while he was in jail. He was also brazilian.
---Capoeira is a very unorthodox style which combines both extreme defense with offense because of the craddle behavior and movement. Capoeira performers are usually difficult to hit because of their unrepetitive movement and low stance. At any moment, a Capoeira user can attack with a leg while still maintaining a strong defense. I learned this just from playing the game Tekken Razz

Haha, thats only if you have to logic to understand the laws of it. If its just visuals to you, then its no more than just a game. Anyway, stick back to the topic of martial arts.
