well our martial arts here in the Philippines is called `ARNIS`

it is a way of holding 2 wepons with you two hands and making either random or syncronized movement on attacking and defending ones self

it can also be learn in a one hand mode

it really depends on the learnee to learn either 2 hand stande or 1 hand stance

i'm quite a fanatic when it comes to marshal arts. officailly i've done Karate for over 4 years, and i'm soon to grade to my 2nd Kyu. soo can't wait Very Happy
But unoffically i just learn whatever moves i see that take my fancy, i have learnt moves from, boxing, judo, wrestling, tae kwon doe, ninjitsu(they have some of the coolest moves if you go to the right style) i also took a class that was just self defence, like how to streetfight sort of thing. i've also taken to learn some of the better moves from other karate styles.
i've also sort of self trained myself with weapons, swords, an axe, bo staff, even a shield which i contructed. oo and bamboo sticks, they are some of the most fun.
And i got a long leather coat, gives me confidence, as practicing fighting and real fighting are two completely different things, you may find yourself not doing proper moves..

right i've had my say. who else wants a go?

Untill two years ago I practiced allot of Wushu at a local club. I got injured, so it stopped for a while there.
The latest year I've been learning some Krav Maga in the army and it's realy fun to! ^^

I'm now considering if I should start practice Tai Chi or more Krav Maga when I become a civilian once again...

probably, tai chi, it's much better for you, and lessens your chance of a heart attack.. but if you've been in the army, you should be in good physical condition.. so..
i still say tai chi

It's just I react before I think. That's why I dealt with the break in so smoothly. Or would you have preferred me to have been the one handcuffed and sliced with the scissors? Oh, no one liners child. Naughty boy.

I watched tens too many martial arts films when I was young. I even beat up these sleazy dudes in Italy when they were hitting on my friends with knives. I want to swear now. Ah, so annoying!!!!!!!

Nice!!!

I took five years of it but never got past the 6th belt. That was due to all of the form's or Kata's that you had to learn before going on to the next belt. I sucked in that but excelled in sparing Smile they only put blackbelts and older, OLDER kids againced me, I still won. Smile Now Id say I have more of a street fighting form. Im still fast when punching, but also have some sereats of my own that give any punch extra power without taking away from speed. then again I like fighting if its for fun and not againced a girl (sorry I dont mean to be sexest or anything but its againced my rules that I follow) I havent been a hight in a long time now that i think about it.

Gave up on Judo.

While very useful in close quarters. All the Judo around my home city is geared towards competition. Not interested in competition, and don't like being used for fodder for the people who are...

Anyways, now studying Chinese straight sword. Jian yi jien. Dual Extremity Sword.

I have been learning it for about 3 months. Got a rough handle on the moves. Sifu is now going through and teaching me more thoroughly now. Like the positioning of the wrist, stance, "intent" and keeping my "awareness" of the sword in mind, trying to keep all movement with the sword anchored with the ground.

This part is very hard. A lot of mental work to do before it becomes automatic. Which is a bit annoying because in Tae Kwon Do I practiced so much that I could do every stance perfectly by muscle memory. But because with this form you are introduced to so many new steps in one go it is going to take many more times to get anywhere near proficient...

Sifu also is getting us to do drills. At first I felt very awkward moving around the sword, but it seems to be flowing more easily in this past month.

Got a long, long way to go. It's not called the 1000 day weapon for nothing!
