TAKASAN: here is a screenshot on how to use layers.
one layer is used for the brown area, another for the black border. the third will be the picture itself. the black border is just to separate the pic and the brown area for easy working. later, when everything is done, the black layer can be deleted. thats why layers make work much easier. hope i helped.
Thanks for trying to help [jiashore]. But unfortunately I'm not a good very student =PI still do not fully understand how to use layers, but I do have a better understanding now though. I thank you. I shall try my best to fully understnad this. I hope to see your work in the competition!^^ You always seem to amaze me. haha...I got x-mas 'okane' now I can go buy an 'atarashii' hard drive and RAM T^T 'yatta!' _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~

THE FANTASTIC FOUR
I am jiashore, a newbie and enthusiastic photoshop manga editor, and a total luver of suzuka... *__* :p :
Well for your kindness of trying to help me and everyone else I'll try to help you too. I had the same problem with my computer! I only had 12 GBs left out of 80 GB hard drive(Out of the 5.5 GBs that Windows XP already takes up and the other 9 that it uses for system restore.) Have you tried deleting all of your offline internet files? This doesn't make Photoshop run faster but it does make the rest of your computer run a bit faster. Sorry this is all I can come up with, maybe you should go ask [Jsy3k] in the "Tech Area" he's good with computers ^^ sorry I couldn't help out like you did me. _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~
Did you figure out a way [jiashore]-san? Sorry I couldn't be mch help.
I have a question for you guys(and I mean everybody!><). How do you color on your drawings? Do you erase parts/pixels or do you create a new layer and do it over with a pen or pain brush? I'm doing the thing over in pen and it's taking forever! I was wondering if there's a faster way to do it. I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance guys. _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~

i make use of a new layer, then colour over the original. but the opacity of the original must be lowered first, in my case, so that the colors stand out more.
you're gonna not want to use pen when your coloring something like that.
In photo editing programs like PS the pen tool is really only used for making lines etc. or vectorizing an image.
To color things in you can use a couple things. the paint brush tool, or the spraycan(or airbrush) tool are easy things to use and the advantage to then is that with either you can set a "Brush" that will make each stroke you put on the image look a certain special way. For example:
if I use the spray can, I can set the brushes to these, and All I gotta do is click the mouse to make the design appear. Brushing with the paintbrush and spraycan tool only work on Raster layers.
Another way to go about it is to use Artistic Media tools. Thes can only be done on an Artistic Media layer. Atristic Media tools include things like chalk, marker, colored pencil, oil brush, pallette knife, etc. They are much more similar to real life paintins etc:
from left to right I used the oil pant, the chalk(which is the same as crayon and colored pencil), the marker, and the last one on the right is the pallette knife, which is like the oil brush, but it blends differently. you can also smudge artistic media which I did in the furthest right one as well.
Although, to be filling in a gundam like that I would recommend using the airbrush with a simple circular brush. And yes, you should start coloring in your drawing on a seperate layer from the actual drawing, that way you can always take back mistakes. You can also merge the layers once you get it to look how you want.
And jiiashore, there really isnt any way to make it run faster. You just gotta get more ram. until then, save works often ^_^. My comp was sick for a while a couple weeks ago, so I had to save every one or two minutes to make sure I would get pissed when I lost all my hard work.
there is one way of making your computer run faster, one is to delete all unnecessary files that you no longer need and yes even ones that you "think" that you need later on. Games take up a lot of space (if you have any), photoshop is recommended for running on P4 processor simply because of all those things that installed. Also too many music files can clog up a lot of space on your HD so delete if some that you won't be listening to anymore. Run the disk defragmenter application to get rid of those fragmented areas. Run ScanDisk to fix any errors that slows down your computer. Certain image files has their own unique sizes, it is recommended to save only at 1024X768pixels or at a 8.5" X 11" format. these only takes up about 500kb to 2mb.
to prevent your PS from crashing, don't run too many functions at once, this will cause your system to become unstable.
On your HD, depending on its original capacity, make sure the following:
for 30gb - make sure to save at least 10gb to prevent unstability
for 40gb - make sure to save at least 15gb
for 60gb - make sure to save at least 20gb _________________ Visit The Forbidden Arts

Wow, thanks [TeH]. never new there were stuff like that in there. Those little scribbles you made look cool. I still can't see how you're able to do works like you do. Yea I guess I'm going to have to use the pen tool....hmm..wait, can i make a new layer on top of the original picture and color on top of it then just Flatten it like that? Will it still look good like that?...wow, I haven't thought about that yet, thanks again [TeH]!
I have a real request from you now. My friend is making a new site but he needs a new banner for it. his old banner doesn't fit the color scheme anymore, do you think you can make him one? the color he is looking for is kind of greenish i believe. We'd really appreciate the help. And thanks for helping me out! You too [jiashore]! I actually got it now after I played with it a bit.
-[Yui]-
Yea thanks [yui]. Darn...I have a 80 GB hard drive but only 11 GBs left...I'm guessing that's bad....yea I need to defrag it I guess...but I don't know what that means but my friend says I'll have to leave it over night. well, I'm going to buy a new hard drive after christmans I think. Will that help out the unstable problem at least? Or will it still go unstable?

To Takasan:
1. I dont think Pen would be the right tool for you to use 'cause like I said it's mainly for making lines...and would take forever to do that way. Although you COULD use the pen tool to make lines around each area you want to be a certain color, and then fill it in with the paint can tool.
2. Also, Like I mentioned on a couple threads I think. I could color anything you want for you if you just tell me what colors you want where.
3. Of course I'll make the banner. Just tell me what size it has to be, what you want it to say, look like, etc.

whoa, teh, really professional there, but i kinda don't understand quite alot of it...
and takasan, yes, you can make use of a layer above a layer to color, just don't ues pen, use the paintbrush or bucket... its much faster. flattening the pic makes it look the same, no difference. just that you now have to work on one layer, and any changes will affect the whole pic.
Hmm....that's what I meant when I said I was going to use the Pen Tool. I was only giong to use it for the lines...is it just me or am I the only one confused @_@; . And if I'm the only one confused and you guys already know this then, I'm hopeless. ><; Yea I do use the spray can and the paint bucket, but it goes and colors the whole thing if I don't make close the lines. Thanks for helping trying o help me guys. And if I'm still confused and sill don't know what you mean, then sorry for wasting your time. Well thanks again guys. _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~
well just tell me what you dont understand and I'll explain it to you better. I dont know what you guys do and dont know about it yet so it's hard to gauge what i can say without confusing people T.T
