UI'm having serious computer troubles right now. Couldn't even post a reply or send PMs. anywyas.....
No, need to be apoligizing [TeH] it was me who got us all confused. What I meant was, and I don't think I stated before, was there a faster way to get the outlines of a picture/drawing? What I have been using was the Pen Tool to create lines on a different layer. I was just wondering if there was a diferent way of getting the outlines of a drawing besides redrawing it.(aw man...this ounds confusing already.....) That was what I meant anyways haha lol _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~ |

if you mean on how to get a selection area quicker, i suggest using polygonal lasso or megnetic lasso, though they get a bit frustrating as you have to do it all over again if you get one spot wrong...
cheers,

actually, before you close the lasso you can press backspace to go back one space. still magnetic lasso can be extremely annoying. I suggest polygonal. |

For the lagging of photoshop, open ur taskmanager and see which program is eating ur CPU time. If it is photoshop, then maybe you don't have enough RAM or virtual memory. Visual styles and unnecessary background programs eat a lot of memory. _________________ [img:500:120:66b679ac1c]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/xysti_sig2.jpg[/img:66b679ac1c] |

Hi I've been following L i a n Tutorials at http://lian.exorsus.net/tutorial.htm
and they seemed to be really helpful, but when I put my lineart on a transparent layer I assumed that would help me color it without having the colors overlap. I accidently started coloring on the background layer mentioned in the tutorial and my lineart wasn't overlapping, so I thought that was majorly helpful and less time consuming but the tutorial mentioned coloring it on some other layer...? I'm a total newbie at photoshop. |

My Question:
Is there a way to apply filters to only a certain selected area, and not throughout the entire image? |

Well, you could try downloading it here:
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS
Quite a BIG file, mind you. 150MB or something like that~
Anyway, good luck, and have FUN!! _________________ EX-mod |

You just have to make a selection with the lasso Tool and apply your filter.
If you prefer you can copy the part of the image you want to modify (with the lasso Tool, Touch L) and put it on a layer above (Touch Ctrl+J) and apply your filter. |

>shampoo322 :
You have the Extract Filter (Alt+Ctrl+X). A great Tool to be very precise for extracting an image.
You can also have the select by color Method : Menu Select/Color Range (I have changed the Shortcut, so I don't remember the original one).
For these 2 Tools, try every option, that's worth it (but it take some time ). |

jiashore: whats extracting? and whats vectoring?
|
Extracting an image : you isolate a part of an image that you want ( ex: the outlines of a character, the black of an image...). When you isolate this part you are only selecting the pixels of this one and you work in Bitmap mode.
Bitmap definition : Bitmap images—technically called raster images—are made up of a grid of dots known as pixels. When working with bitmap images, you edit pixels rather than objects or shapes. Bitmap images are the most common electronic medium for continuous-tone images, such as photographs or digital paintings, because they can represent subtle gradations of shades and color.
Bitmap images can lose detail when scaled on‑screen because they are resolution-dependent, they contain a fixed number of pixels, and each pixel is assigned a specific location and color value. Bitmapped images can look jagged if they’re printed at too low a resolution because the size of each pixel is increased.
Vectoring : you put in vectors what you have extracted, or you can also vectorize a complete image.
Vector (definition in Photoshop help) :
Vector graphics are made up of mathematically defined lines and curves called vectors. You can move, resize, or change the color of a line without losing the quality of the graphic.
Vector graphics are resolution-independent—that is, they can be scaled to any size and printed at any resolution without losing detail or clarity. As a result, vector graphics are the best choice for representing bold graphics that must retain crisp lines when scaled to various sizes)
I hope this is not too diffcult to understand, I'm not sure I was clear enough. |

Wow I thnk this is the stuff I need to know how to use. How do I extract the outlines of a chraracter? I think this would be a lot aster than redrawing everything on a different layer. Thanks in advance! And thanks for the earlier tip [gallen0]. _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~ |
