The art's usually more eye-catching. I like the style, especially with the eyes. Very visually stimulating, a lot of them.
The other thing are the stories behind them. They tend to be more complicated and interesting. You got some bad ones, but the majority are decent if not repeated.
Adult themes are another thing. Anime's not just for kids. Sometimes they're meant just for adults (I know it's different in Japan, but . . .). They focus a lot on capturing the imaginations of all ages, including adults, and that's appealing. And a lot of the points in anime being made are actually well-thought out and pretty deep.
You've got plot, clever storylines, complicated character development, complicated ideas and ideals being presented, etc.
Most North American cartoons just don't go that distance.
Anime for me has more substance than any other American cartoon... most of the cartoons have the same storyline contents and most of the time conflict every other episode because they hardly have reference to the previous episodes, it's like all episodes are independent from one another...
So far the cartoons i liked were Thundercats, Silver Hawks, Mighty Orbots and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors...
Anime is a lot more in depth with the characters and storyline... it's like watching your favorite book come to life because the episodes are related and doesn't contradict each other. The stories have substance and the characters are a lot more alive...
I don't have to enumerate my fave anime because there's too many to count by I got my start with Robotech/Macross, giant robot animes and Saint Seiya...

Well, personally I don't like anime more than western animation. I don't like it less either. They're both about equal to me 'cause they've both got their merits and problems and everything.
As for anime, however, I like it because of the stories that ARE NOT for kids. Berserk, for instance, is one of my absolute favorites of all time. But... it's got so much gore and so many strange sexual situations that it would be a complete flop here in America, because there seems to be a common notion between people here that "Cartoons are for kids". Anime doesn't go by that quite so much so I like that a lot.
1. There’s no such thing as bad acting. (Please don't bring up English voice acting either, I don't think I've ever seen any good dub, anime or live action.
2. Action wise, anime characters look so much better then anything live action.

At first it's the visual image that grabs one's attention. After growing up on The Flintstones, how can Wings of Honneamise or Ninja Scroll not grab your attention? In the end though, an anime is only as good as the story behind it, and the Japanese have some very good story tellers. I especially enjoy continuing series with well connected episodes. You don't get a whole lot of that in American cartoons. When I try and think of a current one, all that comes to mind is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , but even those are very loosely connected. Almost all American cartoons are like your typical sit-com where it doesn't matter what order you watch them in or whether you miss an episode. Perhaps that's partly why anime are successful here. I know my daughter will raise a big rucuss if we're away on the weekend and I don't tape Mega Man. _________________ [IMG:119:90:283352dc7f]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e36/Tank252ca/HoiHoiSanPointing.gif[/img:283352dc7f]Tank252ca

here's an example:
Quote:
you watch some Powerfuff Girl's episodes. then you watch Neon Genesis Evangelion... Ok at this point your brain must be melted.
first, as everyone says, visuals in japanese anime are far, far, really far way better than usually american toons (not anime, toons). refer to above example.
and my biggest reason, anime plot's are brain-twisting! it's true that you have lots of choices, but you'll never seen something like NGE or Lain from an American studio. (i'm not saying that american toons are bad, i just don't like them... they're boring)
but as Kaiser says, it's a capcious question, in my case, i unplug myself from the rest of the world when watching anime, it relieves all my stress, makes me forget of all the day bad stuff..... very cathartic. _________________ All of us LOVE Nyu-Chan!
animation has fascinated me since i was a child (always prefered ninja turtles to power rangers =P), and its stuck with me ever since. i love the stories that anime tells that just isnt present in a good chunk of american animated shows. _________________
i loved power rangers, ddog... and ninja turtles
of course Voltron and Transformers were my favourites... oh, of course Samurai Pizza Cats was WAY better than any american/euro cartoon (=
foregoing the often-mentioned animation and plot points i'll say this:
when i watch a good anime i fall into another world. like reading a really good book, i just get lost in it. (same thing happens when i watch Star Trek )
if the culmination of good story, animation/effects, voice acting and everything else can draw me in like that then it's good. 'nuff said (=

It brings out imagination. Like have you ever seen a real gundam flying around our world or an EVA-type standing out from the city? In anime, people's imagination becomes reality. People tend to think impossible stuffs but can't be accomplished in the real world. Impossible is possible in anime.
In anime, people's dreams tend to become reality, like being surrounded with beautiful women, or riding a robot.
The stories in the anime are interesting, it's all based on the super imagination of the artist. People tend to like anime due to curiousity and the creativity of the artist, just like me.
That's why I like ANIME!!!!!!!! Simply because of the intersting yet impossible stories.Of course, I also like the artworks, it's just so appealing.

for me its an easy answer: regular tv sucks, there isn't anything really there to catch my interest and anime is the answer to that problem _________________ [img:387:120:36cb7a5440]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/idjota/BL.jpg[/img:36cb7a5440]
I think that most anime is mainstream crap but the few exceptional shows/movies that come out every year make it more than worth-while to be a fan. It's great that the Japanese are willing to explore animation as a medium equivalent to live action rather than as a genre. That's probably its main appeal.
