????Fenix, you were getting somewhere then you kinda went the other way. but i understood that "ya" means night...in Chinese, right? so, does that make inuyasha a girl if your translation of it as "some female demon dog" true?

I did? I must be getting old :/
As you may know, the meaning often changes when you combine 2 or more kanjis, usually to something, which isn't too far away from what the individual kanji characters originally mean.
Here we combined ya and sha (therefore the chinese pronunciation) and together they mean a female demon. Actually I think I remember a friend using yasha in her msn name..
Anyways, yep my translation should be true (I hope )
*EDIT* I tried looking up the individual characters in my dictionary, and the ya (夜) surely means night, japanese pronunciation: yo (よ) or yoru (よる), but it says the sha (叉) means fork of road or crotch, japanese pronunciation: mata (また). The way you come from these 2 meanings and to a female demon, I can't really see - maybe something walking down the road of night is a demon. But why fork? If you have any ideas feel free to post them ^^
I really like to find the original way of thinking when kanji / combinations of kanjis were made, it's quite interesting. Actually one of my friends want to study the origin of kanjis and why they are written as they are, like why a man is written 男.
Hope you understand what I mean - english isn't my natural language ^^ _________________ "It is also paradox that the earth moves round the sun, and that water consists of two highly inflammable gases. really? your english's pretty good, but i think i suggest you ake shorter sentences. you tend to put multiple ideas together. which was similar to what i said, "you start out good but blurry in the end". but the english is still good. waaahhh! i envy you.
i've been studying chinese for 10 years but i still cant make one stupid decent sentence. compared to mine, your improvement is good.

Thanks for the compliment, but I only got 6 or 7 in english when I had it in school (for those of you who don't know the 13 scale, 8 is average and 5 is just passed - 6 is like being damn stupid ^^)
Wah! chinese for 10 years, but still can't make a sentence? Wow, now that's some.. I've been told chinese should be quite easy to learn, 'cause the way of making sentences is almost the same as the way we do it, but I guess that only counts for danish people..
I only studied japanese for 2 years, but can still have a decent talk with people on japanese.. _________________ "It is also paradox that the earth moves round the sun, and that water consists of two highly inflammable gases. I have to learn like 150 kanji... and a lot passive...but i'm learning japanese at uni so...it's normal i guess.
Ya, I would also have to learn that amount of kanji, if not more, had I taken high level japanese on 3rd year, but the class wasn't established (is that the word you use for it?), because there were too few students who wanted it ;_; Now I have astronomy instead ^^

well, actually, I wanted to know some where i'm sure it's good japanese and is usefull. (it aren't any dull exercises) so i wanted some suggestions of people who have worked with it or/and know it.
hm, well here it's not really a matter of if it's possible...i mean i know there aren't any students in a certain year for a course (but that was 'cuz all the students from that year had to redo their year. no one passed :s)
