I really didn't know where this thread should go... so I'll put it up here. Also, if a thread like this was already made, please lock it.
Okay, lately I've been having a sleeping problems. When it's around bed time, I tend to stay up WAY late. I usually go to bed around 4-6 AM in the morning on weekdays. This is horrible, because as a student, it really effects my performance in class. I've also been falling asleep in my classes, which in turn, effects my grades.
This is a really big dilemma I'm in. So I was wondering, if any of you also have problems sleeping. Whether it being insomnia(which I think I have) or something else, what do you do to put yourself to sleep at night?
I've tried reading, excersising and even play my favorite, relaxing, classical tunes on. Yet, I still have problems going to bed. Anyone have other suggestions I can use to go to sleep at night? Much appreciation for the advice. (if I get any ^.^;;.) _________________ [IMG:432:143:0a18b764ae]http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c315/Reiswinds/betternastysigD.gif[/img:0a18b764ae]
Ah... geez... I know what you are going through. I myself have been unable to sleep just about all my life and having a mother that likes to run her house based on time doesn't help. Often I find my self up for more then one day and I have even gone a week, when it gets to that point I can hardly function. It is rather weird...
As for advice... just do something boring and if that only makes you restless... uhh... just try to do nothing and if that gets you even more restless... I guess... you.... should go get some help or something. If the problem doesn't go away then maybe you should ask about a sleep study.
just OD yourself or take lots of sleeping pills, and if that doesnt work knock yourself out...it works, knocking yourself out i used to do it _________________ Just 1 minute...were you seeing a dream?
hmmm,
lets see.
u dont take naps during the afternoon do u? cuz if ur like me, and u take a nap, u wont get to sleep till the wee hours in teh morning.
otherwise, really exert urself during the day. run around like crazy, play lots of sports, anything basically that will tire u out completely.
cuz then u go home and straight to bed.
take a hot bath, probably not shower. according to chinese people, the best way to fall asleep is a nice long hot bath. it works for me.
=or=
u can do what i do sometimes: close ur eyes and not open them until morning. after a few hours of not opening ur eyes, ull notice that ur asleep.
dont think about it. just lie in bed and close ur eyes. dont think about anything, dont do anything. just lay there, cuz after about half an hour+, ull start to fall asleep.
consult ur doctor if all else fails.
*otherwise* u can get someone to smack u in the head with a 2 by 4.
that should work.
good luck getting a good nights sleep man. _________________ [img:567:138:151453bb6b]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/wahagifsda.gif[/img:151453bb6b]

I'm not desperate enough to start taking pills. As a matter of fact, I'm against it. Dunno why, that's just me.
It does really suck when my body can't function either do to lack of sleep. My eyes tend to feel really heavy during class, and I can't help but close them. It doesn't even matter if the teacher is staring right at me, I'd fall asleep infront of her. I don't mean to... it's just I'm really worn out.
The only real time I sleep is during class however... it's just plain werid.
Haha, I try not to think while I'm laying in bed. But I can't help it, I'm a really deep thinker... so I tend to think about things a lot. Maybe that's another reason why I can't sleep... _________________ [IMG:432:143:0a18b764ae]http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c315/Reiswinds/betternastysigD.gif[/img:0a18b764ae]
hmmm...
perhaps u fu@ked up ur sleeping habits?
well, maybe ur body is used to late nights, really late nights. like if ur studying, people tend to study in the really early hours of the morning, and subsequently, wake up late and forget what they studied.
maybe thats the case with u.
to correct this, sleep earlier. if u can that is.
as for sleeping infront of the teacher, hmmmm...
to stay awake, wash ur face with water and go for a walk around the school or somethign.
as for staying awake at night. dont think, sleep! i command u to sleep.
its said that u fall asleep when u try to stay awake. and u stay awake when u try to fall asleep.
best consult ur doctor, maybe accupuncture can help.
that or u are stressed, perhaps about exams or grades or something.
visit a massage parlor or something.
otherwise, ur more than welcome to try the other alternatives from my last post.
good luck _________________ [img:567:138:151453bb6b]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/wahagifsda.gif[/img:151453bb6b]

Yeah, thanks a lot.
Various people told me it's due to bad sleeping habits that I'm like this now.
Others think it's drug related, but I don't take drugs in the first place. -_-; _________________ [IMG:432:143:0a18b764ae]http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c315/Reiswinds/betternastysigD.gif[/img:0a18b764ae]
I usually listen to music, mostly chili peppers or funk, at a real low volume. It just seems to help me sleep a lot better :/, also being more active during the daytime can help you since it makes you a lot more tired. _________________ "shut up when your talking to me!"

Like many others, i listen to music, just have ssome music that you can relax too, doesnt need to be classical or anything. Ive fallen asleep to metal before. Since you're against pills i wont suggest that. you could meditate, that could help relax your mind and body. But if this keeps occurring, i highly reccomend going to a doctor.

try this method:
1) go to bed at 11.00pm... around by this time your body will lighten up and you will be sleepy... pasting this time and you'll find hard to sleep... just close your eyes and try to think about happy thing...not that "HAPPY THINGS"...
2)wear socks... I found an article says wearing sock help you to sleep better...I've try it and it works...
3)have you try drinking hot milk before sleep? hot chocolate is ok too
that is what I usually do if I can fall asleep... its up to you to try it...

My general psychology class just said to get up early and force yourself through the day till you are tired at night, also get use to waking up at the same time every day (not just Mon. - Fri.)
But what do they know.
One thing that works well is to drink enough to get a good buzz then pass out
(the psychology people would argue that this makes you addicted to drinking and deprives you of a couple of sleep cycles, but i've never slept more like a baby then when i'm drunk off my ass).
You could also try pricking yourself with some curare. Now this is extremely dangerous because it could cause your heart to stop beating, not to mension all of your muscles to go relaxed (including the anus muscles). But, you will calmly go into that deep dark never ending sleep that we all will one day go towards _________________ HCl before H20 makes a big bang
A common cause for insomnia is pressure due to stress which leads to an inability to relax the mind. Worry. It could be general, or it could be centered around something specific. Some people isolate the problem from themselves so much that they often find it hard connecting it to their insomnia, at least not until they've started facing the cause.
Bad sleep habits can also be a root cause, then smaller causes branch out from there. I dunno, maybe a trick here is needed to set up a routine for your body, to force it back into normal function, something like what Blackthorn mentioned above about getting up early and wearing yourself out with activities throughout the day.
I also disagree with the use of drugs (unless absolutely necessary). Some people need to take something, though, at least until they can figure out the main cause of their disfunction and focus on correcting it. It's still tricky, though, because people become dependent on these types of drugs very easily. I have a friend that can't sleep at all unless she takes ambien, and once a body adjusts that much to a drug, it's incredibly difficult to undo the effect.
