I didn't see any topic made with the same title so I'm going to make one.

The first gundam that started it ALL!
A Classmate of mine used to brag how the Gundams today are too..."weak". he always say that Amuro Ray was the best gundam pilot.
After watching the 42 episodes in 2 days, I now know what he meant, kinda. the OP song kinda made me laugh but it was good anyways.

the one I watched was only dubbed but I'm glad the dubs weren't too bad.
Who else here has alresdy watched this series?

I haven't watched any other new gundam than the original, so I'm not a big gundam freak.
I like the original. And it's good to have it under your "watched list", because whenever there is a gundam reference in an anime, you'll know what a "newtype" is. Wink

I did, and I must say, it was one of the best gundam series I ever watched. Aside from a lot of "newtype communications", I really like the way most character grew from being arrogant kids to someone who is very perceptive. I think that show got extremely good when Lalah started to show up.

There are quite a few funny things from the animes too. Like how When Lalah first showed up, she and Char met Amuro in real person and didn't realize that he's the enemy, haha.

In terms of Amuro being the best of universal pilots, I totally agree too(especially if you have watched Char's counter attack). However.... since all pilots are from different era, there are no proofs that Amuro is(though I really think that he is).

IMO, the older series are much better than the newer series. I especially did not like the GSD and gundam wing series much(strictly my opinion)

it seems kind of ironic when the original gundam was released, no one paid attention to the idea of a series that didn't involve the concept of "real" mechanics, because at that time, "super" mechanics dominated the mecha genre, such as getter robo and mazinger. and now, more than 25 years later, there is a balance between "reals" and "supers", with more "real" appearances other than gundam in the mecha genre. good job, tomino; you should be proud

and, yes, i have the original gundam in a 5-disc DVD set

The core fighter...that was the second time I've seen it. The first that I've seen was in the game Gundam F91 on Super Famicom.

But seeing a Gundam combining was...different. I was expecting the first gundam to be a full model not splitted into 3 parts.

I agree with Raiden. The first time when I saw 3 parts combining to form a gundam felt weird. Especially ZZ gundam....

i'm thinking that tomino did that to pay homage to the supers of the mecha genre, where a majority of them (ie voltes, combattler, getter robo, ideon) had to combine to become the robot from separate vehicles. so likewise, the original gundam and even ZZ gundam had it as a sort of respect to the old titles

i haven't see the first gundam series and i'm a little sketchy on the ones that follow it. you think you could point me to a site that has them for download?

which series had a sort of DRAGOON system that GSD had but was controled by the piolets mind? i've seen bits and pieces of older gundam series but never the full series.

Many.
In gundam 0079, Lalah piloted an elmeth that has "funnel"system.
Zeta, Psycho gundam mkII and Qubely have them.
ZZ, Quebely, Queen Mantha, and some others have them as well.
Char's Counter attack, gundam X....
Umm... too many to name.
Let's just say that the dragoon system is nothing original:P
