Just out of curiosity you are trying to make a dvd and not a vcd correct? because if you are burning onto a cd r or cdrw vcd/svcd then youre going to need to go to vcdhelp.com and check if your dvd player will actually play the media.
From my experience you have 3 options:
well first, let me just ask why are you using avisynth? Generally you wouldnt need avisynth for this kind of process mainly because there is no sense in applying cleaning filters I say this because youre switching from an already filtered (and compressed) file to a (less compressed ) file. Im sure you can do what youre doing with avisynth but I dont see a point in it?

If your looking to do something along those lines, there is virtualdubmod, and you can open your avi file in it. Your next step woudl be to resize your avi to a standard dvd / vcd size resolution, (Im unsure if you dont have to do this or not mainly because I always do that anyway). The next step can be done two ways. The faster way would be to uncompress the avi, but you need literally a crapload of space to do that, for instance generally a 20-30 minute video can range to up to 50 - 70 gigs if Im not mistaken possibly even more(I might be exagerating a bit . Razz ) after you have your uncompressed avi you can then load it up again and then save it and go into the codec section and switch the avi to mpeg2 and encode it. (that goes faster then straight up resizing and encoding straight from the xvid avi itself) Again this is not something noted among sites, its kind of something I FEEL to be faster then converting it straight from xvid to dvd most sites will probably say its about the same speed.

second more friendliar way would be to use Ulead dvd movie factory (at least I think thats what its called) I used to use that program when I felt lazy, it lets you make custom menus etc, and will convert the avi to dvd or vcd (depending on what you want) for you and burn the disc (so basically if your computer isnt top of the line you can go to sleep with it on and expect to have a proper functioning dvd in the morning... or afternoon depending on when you wake up Razz) Only problem with this is if you have two audio sources (Mkv ogm etc) you can only choose one audio source, and I dont think it will convert straight from ogm or mkv .... youd have to frameserve from avisynth.

A third way would be a way youve tried already, just use nero just fiddle with the settings to make it work is what I would say, whenever I used nero it worked for me it was just that the conversions were really bad and caused the framerate to be very erratic causing crappy dvds. but it might work out much better for you ^^;

anyway those are my suggestions... did that make any sense? Im to lazy to go back and read it through Razz
