I didn't find any thread that was made so here's one.

The survival horror that kinda matches the RE series but with creatures that's unexplainable. Different from your Run-of-the-mill zombies.
And by far has the most difficult puzzles I've encountered. Vision is limited unlike the RE series, a radio that warns you when creatures are near, a vest pocket flashlight to light your way to the darkness, a town that's covered in fog and "mysteries". A town that changes it surroundings with grates and steel fences, a border between reality and madness?

a game that rivals the RE franchise. So what do you think of the Silent Hill series to those who have played this game.

First off, Silent Hill is such a great series.

I've played Silent Hill 1, 2 and 4.

Each of these SH's gave me something new, and creeped me out in ways RE could not. Sure, RE has those moments where you tend to be on the edge of your seats and make you jump. But, SH just leaves me with such a horrid, digusted feeling that stays inside me.

Instead of zombies, we're faced with nightmarish demons and other manfesitations. The story in this series(mainly 1, 2 and 3) gets really dark and involves a dark religion and an occult. To be honest, things like Satanists, the occult, and demons really scare me, even if its a video game. It's just a part of me that fears that type of stuff, and it's why I consider Silent Hill to be scarier than Resident Evil.

Scenes in this game are so horribly brutal, monsters that just leave chills in my spine, characters that leave me mystified and creeped out at the same time. This game is just so bizarre, sick and twisted... yet the stories just grabs me to keep playing on, no matter how sick it gets.

So, which of the series is your favorite to play?

I'm into 2 and 4... and I'm looking towards buying the third one to play.

Silent Hill 2 holds the most memorable scene in gaming history to me:

When the pyramid head enemy is raping the manequinn demon and James is hiding in the closet hiding. I could've laughed my ass off if my jaw wasn't dropped to the floor.

Is that what it looks like to you? Hmm...I've never thought about that since I was too...into the game. but I also find the Pyramid head very mysterious and at the edge of my floor whenever I encounter it. The first experience for me to fear him was when I was in Brookhaven hospital he knocked James over...down to Red Status...whooo...fear the power. Even if I was reading the guide as I play...just seeing the word "Pyramid Head" in it ...I can't seem to go on. also, getting the Great Knife for me took a lot of guts and come back unscathed ornot seeing "HIM".

so far...I've played 1 and 3. I'm currently playing SH2 since one of the forums that I visit made a thread about the SH movie and said to me:
"You haven't played SH2 yet?! You're missing all of the action."
and so, I bought SH2 and I'm currently near the end...The Hotel.

But my SH1's most feared enemy is the Stalkers or the ones that inhabit the School...gets me everytime!
SH3 wasn't too scary or horrifying than the first. I was just zooming when I played it after 3 times...since no Pyramid head was there.
SH4...I'm still not sure If I'm going to get it...the FPS view just added another chill around every corner.

I didn't use a guide when I played SH2... so when I picked up the Great Knife I almost cried when I found out he was gonna start chasing me.

The first person view only occurs when the main character, Henry, is in his apartment. It's not all that bad during the first half of the game. But...

During the second half, expect your apartment not to be a safe haven anymore, as it becomes haunted by ghosts. Not only that, there's a dead body stashed in the wall. :/

When you actually leave the apartment, it's a normal third person perspective game.

What makes SH4 stand out from the rest of the series is that it implies more melee combat, instead of the use of guns. You pick up various melle weapons, ranging from axes to golf clubs. There are one or two pistols in the game however, but ammo if very, very, very limited. It's best to stick with your melee weapons.

SH4's story intriguied me the most out of the series. It's really, really deep. You realise, why Henry is chained up in his apartment, and why the series of events occur later on in the story.

I'd say more, but that'd spoil it for you.

Edit: I forgot to mention. The number of items and weapons you carry in this game are limited to a certain amount. Expect to be storing or discarding useless junk in a storage box located in your apartment. ^.^;

This game is more horror and scarier and UNEXPLAINABLE than RE.. I bought the SH2 but just played for a few hours then I stopped because my heart beat so fast and I thought I'm gonna got heart-attack.. is took me a long time before I can finish this game.

Whoa that nice Reis-san, but what I hate much about survivor game example like SH2, they can't jump.. over the rope that block them to the next place..that such lame. Can ask between Sh1, 2, 3, and 4 which is better? Imean from perspective of story and gameplay.. not care much about graphic as long as good storyline is enough..

Hmm... storyline wise... that's tough. I pretty much think all of them have a great story.

My favorite ones are Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 4 though.

Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2 revolved around a man named James. James and his lover, Mary got married at Silent Hill, and it became their tryst. Well, Mary was hospitalized in Silent Hill's Hospital and died.

A few years later, James recieves a letter from his dead wife, telling him to come back to Silent Hill. Puzzled, James heads back to the haunted Silent Hill...

Silent Hill 4
At first, the player is probably all like WTF. We find ourselves in a pretty f*cked up room, the walls seem to be made of flesh. A demonic aura surrounds the whole place, and everything seems out of whack. If that's not bad enough, something horribly disgusting manfiests from the wall and attacks you. Then, we wake up to find out it was a dream... but the nightmare has only begun...

Our protagonist, Henry, finds himself locked up in his apartment for several days. Why can't he get out you ask?

Well, for one, the front door is chained up from the inside. How did the chains get their? God knows... All the windows are stuck, the phone is dead, and it appears even the neighbors can't hear you when you scream and bang on the walls. You've been having the same dream for the past days you were stuck in this apartment. Some werid shit happens... and then a huge hole appears on your bathroom wall. And what does Henry do? Climb through it of course...

Welcome to the world of Silent Hill 4.

[/i]

Thanks for telling me, I guess the SH4 not bad to try out, trapped in apartment? I wonder is there no axe or maybe Rockect Laucher to bang out.. jokes..

So you mean after Henry climbed through the holes he arrived into SH world which mean that another world dimension or just beside the building? And don't tell me he just got a steel pipe to hit those weird thing? +o+!

Actually, when Henry entered the hole, he entered into a...

alternate dream world. However, even though it was a "dream world", the deaths that occur in this world happen in the real world.

Henry tried everything to break the chains, but they're indestructible.

Also, people in the videogame world don't always get a rocket laucnher Aya. ^.^;

*Not only does he get a steel pipe, he gets a whole arsenal of melee weapons at his disposal. Too bad he doesn't get too many guns though.

Oh I thought he does have one.. what such unlucky for him...if not there will be more cheerish for that game because we can make such havoc everywhere (hahah effected of RE4).
Sorry for out of topic....

I guees it will be hard using steel pipe to knock over that alien...btw what that creatures name? But if this game can blow up their head will be nice too.. Oh gory...

Silent Hill 4 cost $40 US dollars when I bought it.

We encounter, of course, nicely detailed, ugly, horrendous looking enemies throughout the game. I know the name of a few: Sniffer Dogs, Doubleheads, Greedy Worms, and the most horrible enemies, the Victims.

The Victims are the toughest enemy. They are ghostsm basically, but they can be physically damaged by your melee weapons. Even though they can be hit physically, doesn't mean they lose their ghostly properties: They can still go through walls and can't die! Even though you can hit them and knock them down, they get back up no matter what. There's only one real way to stop them:

Knock them down, and pin them to the floor with an item called the Sword of Obdience. Really brutal if you ask me.

Being in an area with one damages you too. Really annoying.

These "ghosts" are known as Victims because...

Later in the game you will learn about a man named Walter Sullivan. He was a serial killer that slaughtered 17 people. After he killed them, he himself died in prison. Early in the game, you will notice bloody handprints on the wall if you look outside the peep hole on the chained door in your apartment. These handprints represent the Victims whom Walter killed.

Each time a person is murdered in the dream world, a new handprint will appear on the wall. A new victim by a suppposedly dead Walter.

This is significant to a ritual Walter was trying to complete when he was alive, he needed to make 21 sacrifices in order to complete his ritual.

Henry's neighbor was the 20th sacrfice, and Henry himself was supposed to be the 21st, depending on which ending you get.

If you want me to get indepth, just ask. Also, if you don't mind spoilers. ;P

Of course I can tell you about the game. ;D

Gotta put up the spoiler tags just incase others don't wanna know...

Like I said earlier, the Victims are the ghosts of people Walter Sullivan, the main baddie in the game, murdered. Their spirits couldn't rest, and in turn, became evil.

You get a lot of melee weapons in this game. Of course, you get the handy steel pipe, baseball bats, axes, a set of golf clubs(you find a different golf club through out each area of the game to complete the set), a pistol and magnum(very little ammo through out the game), and a chainsaw! ^________^

There are more but I can't remember them from the top of my head.

And oh yeah, you can kick them when you knock them down.

Oh so des ka... maybe they should call Yunie to make some ritual to send them into Farplane...jokes.. (=.=0). Evil spirits.. guess is not nice if we treat them w/o any brutality...

Baseball bat? Golf sets? are we going for sports or something... lucky there was an axe.. if not I'll homerun their head off.. but I like the weapon of Dr. Salador was here... Tee Hee Heheh....

You mean kick while them on the ground... that bully weak person... but nevermind I kinda like that. How about the control systems, I mean camera angle.. is it like RE4?

Whoa I check out at gamefaqs and they said to get 10 stars is beat the game within 2 hours, no save, kill almost all creatures in apartment and got more than 50 over 52 notes..

is that really hard?.....
