Okay......this is one of the few times where the government dosnt control somthing....or is it?
Let us look at Democracy and its growing trend in the world....
.....Its like peer pressure, the USA is obviously influencing the other countries in the world...
other note:
The media is able to control many aspects of what we see.
Advertising all over the place, in you'r face......many ppl see this as normal nowadays...but it realy is agressive if you think about it, you are in a way, controled at what you look at... |

I don't think coolness exists. It's a very flexible term used in social situations in order to convey belonging.
Coolness differs from one individual to another. so basically all that is cool is actually a heap of bullshit. Aint that cool? |

| Well both. If it werent cool the marketers would not do the prodcut. But it is also true that the consumers are the most important ones. If they say that it is not cool. Bye bye to the product. |

there was an expose about this... indirectly the marketers are the one that is saying if things are cool or not...
one guy said.. we go into the minds of teens to know what THEY want so you can give them what YOU want them to have...
its kinda like a tag team of the marketers and promoters...they decide what should be out there and do anything in their power to "make it look cool" so that teens will say it IS cool and then they buy it... _________________

I remember listening in class that there was a company who would hire people (preferably the women, they listen better), train them to be "cool merchants", send them out in the public and ask people what they think is cool, then report things back to headquarters so that they can use that data to thier advantage. _________________

basically there are organizations that send "cool hunters" to go out and find niche trends so they can then sell that information to marketers. market then sell that image of "cool" to the mainstream audience.
so, my answer to the question would have to be marketers.
there has to be a large amount of people following a trend in order for it to be cool. if an image isnt commericalized then there wont be enought people interested in it to become "cool".
to summerize, teens start the trend and marketers make it "cool" |

I'd say both and neither, becuase it really depends on the nature of the question. Are we asking when something such as a piece of clothing is officially "cool" were does the coolness begin?
If It's where does that coolthing start then it always starts with an invidual, groups aren't cool, people as a whole are lame. Coolness always has to start with one person, one idea, now this idea can come from a teenager or a marketer or some random person outside of those deomographics but once the idea is out there they just have to expand on it and do it and if that idivual is right about this cool idea it spreads
Now this is were the marketers and teenagers come in. Does something become cool when most teenagers acknoledge it as cool or does it become cool once marketers starts selling it in that they only sell stuff that is cool actually when you get down to it marketers only react to a public opion and just expidite the spread of coolness so it has to be teenagers |

...um, I'm definately sure it's neither of those questions. The question is on the very first post, and it's not when, but who (Oy..).

V-boi2002, I understand your point but let me explain my post a little better, what i really ment was that this answer really depends on you defenition of cool if you think that coolness is just a question of perception if somethink only beocmes cool when enough people are doing or if it has enough Social Proof backing it up then I would say that it's both but more teenagers than Marketers but only becuase teenages can creat infinetly more social proof than marketers. Marketing can be a major contributing factor but it takes peer pressure to make it cool.
But you can look a coolness from another perspective. What if there are things that are just plain cool they don't neet anyone to see them or talk about them to be cool that's just their nature. Obviously this isn't true of all things, some stuff is only 'cool' becuase it's in fashion and people say it's cool we call these things fads. But some thing things are just plain cool. Like guitaurs or Huge Waterfalls, well there's tones of stuff but in the case of these things it's not a question who makes it cool but who discovers this really cool thing |

| I choose marketer's but really its a combination. Teenagers experiment when it comes to fashion but the only way it becomes mainstream is if a company sees the popularity of any fashion trend and markets it. |

i personally think its teenagers, for example: if marketers say that dating ugly fat kids is cool, teens wont do it.... _________________ [img:400:300:c09fe998e4]http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c175/KingDarr/twopaiswallsmallsized.jpg[/img:c09fe998e4] |

no one person really determines what is "cool" it mostly depends on the number of people who like them _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... Theres your freebie... |
