| If something is too good to be true then it probably is. If you find anime that's very cheap and "new" then it's either HK DVD (bootleg anime DVD company) or some one put fansubs on a DVD and is selling them for his/her own profit which is like 100x worse then HK DVD's. |

You can't really trust ebay when it comes to anime box sets, majority of the items auctioned are Hong Kong bootlegs. The highest price is probably your best bet for the real stuff. If an item is unbelievably low, it's most likely HK crap.
The best thing to do is to check if there are chinese subtitles - if so, don't get it. And the most obvious thing to do is to check if the series is liscensed! Don't regret not buying from ebay, you could have a big pile of imitations. |

Yeah I got a Fx one but its of relativly good quality which makes it nice but its still crap especially my Outlaw Star the bootlegers actually advertise on it. They advertise, comeon dont leave a calling card on something you bootlegged. Man they pisses me off.
Theres got to be a way to fight this, hey heres an idea. Could maybe A-S have a page of legit webpages that sell legit DVD's and a list of bogus sites selling bogus ones. Or is there one? Just a thought. We could even have people email pics of the bogus dvd so others know excatly what to look for. Again just a thought. |

There's a few websites people recommend in the Merchandise forum.
If you're not sure of the store, you can always ask there and people can usually tell if they are bootleg or not. _________________

ebay is a very dangerous place. I ordered pita-ten dvd's, cause the seller said they weren't some cheap bootleg dvd's cause they were all factory sealed and stuff.
apparently, he thinks that factory seals mean a plastic bag.
subbing quality was horrible.
get it off some site that's got a good reputation, not from sellers that could be jacking your money. _________________

Most anime dvds on ebay are hk rips, and most are very poor quality subbing. i noticed that the sellers are calling them 'import' dvds alot now.
if ur not sure whether it is or not, u can use a site like animediscount.net to look at the covers and compare. they sell only hk dvds, so if the cover matches one there, it aint a legit release. |
