Don't know if this has been posted, but this plays pretty much anything...
http://www.videolan.org/
Plays avi, ogg, mkv, etc. Plus, for ogg/mkvs, it lets you switch the audio and subtitles within the VLC player. |

Well just out of curiousity I tried that one when I couldn't play one set of multiaudio .ogg files with MPC (which came with the CCCP) as in it won't even start (whereas WMP10 would actually play both audio tracks simultaneously if one was selected, but only that track if the other was selected), but the same files played out rather jerkily (the frames seem to flicker between each other).
Guess there's no single perfect Player/Codec pack combo for all video files out there. _________________ For love and justice, I am Sailor Enlil!

First, Sailor_Enlil, have u tried some codecs packs. U had probs with ogg files, VLC should be able to play it cause i have animes that are in ogg, mkv... files that are unsual and VLC plays them all.
Ok, now my turn: I dl some Detective Conan [1-10] from (Aconan) and can't play them, even with VLC or Media Classic. The file extention says .AVI . But when i check it with G-spot, it says '' not a avi file and file unknow''.... ''Rendering failed''... some one help !!!
thks in advance |

Looks like you got a corrupted file. Maybe you want to redownload it. _________________

umm....I kinda need some audio codecs. the only thing i was able to find(or works) was FLAC.
I still need codecs like APE, CUE and WV. I don't want those downloads to be a waste.... _________________

I think DivX player comes with the codec it needs for certain media files, such as avi. |

Welcome to computer technology, where everything changes in a few months and we get a new operating system every couple years from microsoft.
Codecs change too, couple years ago, there wasn't DivX or Mp3s. Keeping up to date is a pain in the ass, but usually its for better quality at lower file sizes. |

i have come across 2 of the most recommended codecs there is uptodate (maybe i am a little outdated so please excuse me).
They are :
K-Lite codec pack and Ace mega codec.
What are your comments on them and maybe you could let me know if there are better ones out there. _________________

may i know what is the role of fourcc codechanger? what is the use? i recently can't watch certain anime with xvid codec so i changed it to divx codec with fourcc codechanger, would it affect the avi file perfomance/quality? _________________

Taken from www.afterdawn.com: FourCC, a four character code in beginning of media file, mostly associated with AVI, that tells what codec your system should use for decoding the file.
From what you stated, I'm not sure what you did; whether to enable some features in your media player or re-encoded the video to divx. But there is no way you could watch a video encoded in xvid and decoded with divx. However, you can watch divx with xvid codec, since xvid is open-source and can decode both. Re-encoding a video lowers its quality and maybe performance. |
