I can't download macross at home, because there I have a dial-up connection. it will be just as slow as here and with a horrendous phone bill to boot... If I do it here it is free. At least. But I really want to see that show, so I'll take my pic and get started.
Yeah, they totally turn red. For example, kazuki's eyes are normally brown, but when he's in his fafner they are red. And if you notice Canon's eyes in the babalon ar blue, like they normally are, so that is another difference between the Tatsumiya fafners and the N.U.N. stuff.
I also took a look at the new GW release. Looks cool, but I wonder how many episodes it contains. It is 35 dollars at amazon, and for half the series that is awfully cheap. not like I can afford it, but still... sounds like a good deal. I hope Kay enjoys it.
Oh crap! I have to go eat! The cafeteria is going to close soon... ok, I'll be back!!! _________________
man, physics takes up alot of your free time.. i get home at like 11 at night, and i'm leaving to work on my project at like 8 in the morning each day.. and..bleh, last year of high school..? =/..
anyway.. you're definitely right about the eyes, and the best example is probably the pilots from the UN, who were supposed to pilot the fafners and failed.. err.. ep 16 =p, too lazy to take screenshots, but their eyes turn red, and they havnt been genetically modfied or anything, so thats a major difference..
oh yeah, and speaking of kaykay, where DID she go anyway..? =/ come back kaykay! we miss you! =/...we do miss her right? _________________ Mr. Offtopic o_o

Eureka 7 will be an epic, depending on how they end it. They already surpasses both Evangelion and RahXephon, only if they are worthy enough to stand alongside Macross and Gundam will be the final questions now _________________ ...
wow i didn't think e7 would be THAT good. i mean i don't think eva and raX. are too great...but they're still seen as "Masterpieces" or anime classics. but i didn't know that e7 would be amoung the "greats".
anyways do u think e7 is better than fafner as well? y or y not?~! _________________

So far E7 has had lots more ups than downs. I guess that it is truly at this point where the plot takes more shape. It is very promising right now, and for the looks of it it will deliver. In my opinion it easily surpasses evangelion and it is somewhat better than RahXephon, but I still like Fafner better. I don't think that was the case for mistabean, but it is mine.
The GW that I saw was marketed as "complete collection 1", so there's gotta be a "complete collection 2" with the rest of it. Beats me why they would call it "complete" if it isn't complete, but whatever... these marketing fellows are really odd sometimes.
Well, macross has been pushed further back in schedule due to low hard drive space. Time to burn stuff off my computer, but the only "burnables" are still getting downloaded, so this is going to be a bit of a wait.
Happy belated birthday Kay! *sigh* This happens every time. I know when people's birthdays are but I always forget about it on the day they *actually* are. Last time it was my dad's birthday I forgot about. I had to come up with some excuse for not calling home on that day.

well, from the story standpoint, Eureka 7 do have an advantage over Fafner because the story is solid so far. And for those who watched the raws, it will only going to get much more solid with the passing of the episodes. Also, the Acperiences episodes are quite simply the best episode in the series, complete with beautiful drawings and such.
Fafner's advantage is that they have the guts to kill off characters, which E7 sorely lacks. Also, almost all characters are given a chance to shine and develop, as opposed to E7 which have only maximum 7 characters that they developed. However, the character development in E7 is much more thorough and much more solid than Fafner's. _________________ ...

Alright Im back for now at least... yeah Im a lazy bum.
Well first of then leo congratulations and welcome late as hell so you'll have to forgive me... I hope
Well yeah you could say that the fact that they dare kill off characters is one of fafners good points. I never liked it that much since I didn't feel anything for the characters that died, like I said before I just went meh they died.
And yeah E7 does not concentrate on every character that they're able to, a lot of the crew on the gekko-go are nothing but faces of people I didn't even know existed onboard. But on the other hand I did sympathize with the characters in E7 while in fafner I didn't so the fact that they don't focus on all the cast doesn't matter much to me.

well, my plan to watch anime over the march break was completely ruined.. maybe i'll just download a batch torrent sometime nad watch eureka7.. but since i havnt watched it yet, I can't talk about it. So yeah.. Eisenmeteor you have a point with the character killing, but it wasnt like they were meaningless deaths. For example, if shouko never died.. i bet you that kouyou would've never died, as he probably wouldn't be as motivated to save maya, which would probably have led to maya's death. And if he never went into the ocean and got assimilated somewhat, the island in the end could've been destroyed. I think thats one example... the deaths in that series all have some form of lasting effect on the series, and its not like we don't feel anything when some of them die.. Big ending spoiler for fafner
i mean, take a look at soushi at the end, i'm pretty sure that at least we felt some form of emotion watching him disappear.
oh and.. *OFFTOPIC*
yay! everyone's back again
=).. whaaat.. i have to have an offtopic part in my posts.. or else.. well.. you know, i wouldn't feel right being called mr. offtopic.. =p

Eh? No problem, there's nothing to forgive. You stopped posting for a while 'cause you were moving, right? How'd that go?
Killing of characters is a prtty stong dramatic twist, in my opinion. I cared when folks died in Fafner, in my opinion they were developed anough for me to care about them, even though you could see that Koyo was going down pretty much since Shoko kicked the bucket and that one didn't have too big of an impact on me. Anyway, mistabean is right about the character development thing in E7. Renton, Eureka and Holland get tons of camera time. Talho does to a lesser extent and pretty much everyone else is just around, so killing them off really wouldn't serve too big of a purpose. They might as well stay alive. The formula was kinda proven by the few E7 characters that have died so far. They were pretty well dveloped in my opinion.
Jckool: I wish I had done more work in my break. I spent it reading manga and relatively little of what I was supposed to. I'm in trouble... *gulp*.
Maybe Kay will post soon. Group reunion!!! Open up those bottles!!! _________________

Yeah bit of none mecha part then
Leo: Yeah one of the resons Im not online as much is because of that since I don't have any internet at the new place... hell don't even have a telephone line yet. Also because Im a lazy bum... haven't been able to get into the old times with our mech talk yet.
jckool: Spoilers once again lol. Do me a favor shorten down my user name just call me eisen or if you rather use the nickname kk gave me GG. I don't know why but it actually bothers me when people use all of my username.
Now to the more serious part or ontopic part
The killing off characters in fafner like I said was a good part of fafner and added more to the story and showing us that they're weren't invicible or anything like that. And at the same time it's one of fafners flaws in my book anyway. Like I said before I never feelt anything when characters died and by this I mean I didn't feel anything for any character that died. The reson was simply because I never feelt like I made much of a connection to the characters and the cast was simply to big to fit into a 26 ep anime. I strongly belive that fafner could have become an even greater anime if they had made it longer and given it more time since not all the character are really given their chance to really shine as well as the flow feelt abit weird or off in the anime for maybe the first half or something. And I do agree with you that their deaths had meaning I just didn't care for them.
I also really belive in that if they had killed Kira in the end of GS it would have made it quite great and shot up how much I'd like it. This is one of the places where they should have killed off an character but didn't, but since it's Gundam he'd probably just die and then come back from the dead. But still it would have been great also it might have made GSD a much better anime then it is if Kira had died since at least that way he wouldn't have stolen the main character seat from Shinn and the anime might have worked.
As for E7 they don't try to cast the light on every character and bring them out. Fafner tried to make everyone important and have them all do something and show that they are important etc. E7 just concentrates on a handful of characters which also makes it easier to sympathize with the characters. I really love the episodes between 10 and 26 and the relationship Renton had with Holland it's something that to me brought out alot of character in them. The deaths in E7 could have been more dramatic and grand even if some where so, even so they were fairly good and it was sad to see them go since I liked them.
One thing I've always like that intruged me has been uhhh... don't know if it's the right word but despair in animes. True fafner has it but somehow they don't really pull it off as good as they could have. Going to other non mecha animes, I picked up shuffle and canvas 2 after seeing some talk about it around the forum and figured I'd see what people were talking about. Honestly I don't like them very much, typical harem anime that was pretty boring in it's way. There has however been a few points that caught my attention and made it worth watching just for those moments. If you haven't watched the anime and planning to I'll keep it as vague as I can, when they go over Kaedes story in Shuffle and when you get to see hirokis past in Canvas 2, those are the things I'll remember from those animes. I like the way they made them and it's abit to bad that fafner couldn't really stir it up as much.
Sorry, I have seen neither of those two "Despair Animes" so I'm having a hard time grasping the concept. I guess that you mean when people are in really crappy and desparate situations that are more likely to "break"them than to "make" them, right? Uhh... I guess that I just described pretty much every anime.... well, I guess I kinda understand your point anyway, if partially. I find those kind of things pretty intriguing too. I have *finally* figured out how to use IRC, so I'll see if I can get them.
Killing Kira at the end of GS would have been a great idea in retrospective. The first time I watched the ending of GS I thought that after all that killing him off would have been a bit of a cheap shot, but now it think it would have been OK, especially with the way he was handled in GSD. another thing that I thought really sucked terribly was the fact that they revived Mwu in the worst possible way. Good side: he was the resident Misterious Masked Evil Guy. Bad side: everything else. As an enemy the guy turned out to be full of hot air and was never a real threat. In the end he regained his memories in a cheesy, predictable and extremely unrealistic way. Killing him of was one of GS' great moves, in my opinion, and getting him revived like that just made me want to kill him until he died. Again. Anyway, I think that both of you guys are right, given the way things are right now in E-7 seeing a character die would be either a shrug in the case of the secondary/background characters or a NOOOOOO!!! (Darth Vader style, hehe) if it is a more important one.
jeez jckool... still having trouble with the spoilers? lol... And I don't get tired of that scene... I just like it a lot. They put good music in it too, so the effect is even better. Speaking of music, it was good to hear the first E7 Op again and the same goes for RahXephon.
Yay, just ordered my Vol 5 of fafner! should get here on wednesday!! and I'll still be busy with classes... (TT_TT) I'm hating my college life right now!!!!
Edit: Finally got the dvd, but the mistakes in it annoyed me so much I made a rant on it in the Merchandise forum. *sigh*.
well, its not that you're alone.. i wanted to post earlier, but i must've missed the thread =p that and i'll be gone for abit longer.. i have tons of things due =p
killing kira at the end of gs would've been the greatest thing fukuda has ever done. Well, if you think about it.. usually the main enemy of the main character is usually stronger than the main character himself, and the main char has to do something remarkable in order to win. If we look at things from Shinn's perspective, (who i think they should've actually developed instead of having him say the same thing over and over..), kira is the main enemy. It would've been a really nice ending or so, even though kira is so loved, if for one thing, shinn got at the very least SOME character development during the 50 episodes, and in the end did something remarkable to defeat kira, not necessarily kill him, but at the very least they could've had a better fight.. i really don't like the athrun vs shinn matchup either, and Rey is the most horrific excuse for a semi-main character/sidekick/minibadguy at the same time ever.
And thats my rant, which i think i kept spoiler free =) what an accomplishment! XD _________________ Mr. Offtopic o_o

In that case I need a more comfortable chair. It's going to be long, nearly 2/5 of the series remain unsubbed.
jckool: Oh, good to know you've been around then. Your post is spoiler free but... what happened to the offtopic part? That's odd for Mr. Offtopic.
Anyway, Killing kira could have been a great move, although I did like how Gundam Seed ended with him alive. I think that Fukuda could have made something good out of GSD even if he kept Kira in it by, as you say, having Shinn actually develop. All we see Shinn do is be angry and rude at his superiors. in the end Athrun Kicks his ass and that teaches him a lesson in humility. The end. At the beginning I though Shinn was a goldmine for character develpment. I thought that Fukuda had made him rather hateful on purpose, to eventually turn him around (much like a certain someone from Eureka 7 who suceeds incredibly at turning people's bad opinon on him ). But later on SHinn remains static and stupid and degenerates into the chairman's angry puppet. Character development: exit stage left.
Rey sucked as a villain too, I thought that he was going to be Klueze's redemption, the ultimate rebuff of the chancellor's destiny plan. Although in a sense he still is, I was hoping it would be better done and would happen way earlier in the series to allow for more character development. i honestly thought that he's meet Kira or Neo face to face at some point or another, but it never really happens (his end meeting with kira is not what I had in mind). Oh, yeah, thay also make a big deal out of his mental conection with neo only to forget all about it from episode 6 onwards. Stupid, I tell you. he failed as a villain because he was always too secondary and his suddenly becoming the next bad guy was poorly scripted.
Well, that's enough ranting for now. I'll come back later.
edit: Ahahahah!! I just saw a flier posted on my college library about some "queer" (gay) event and that just made my day. Why? the flier has a drawing of the Gundam Wing boys standing there. I didn't know GW's Yaoi potential had such a reach... lol
EDIT2: Zegapain came out. Gonna check it out. Episode 1 wasn't too exciting, but maybe it will pick up in the future. Full rant on the Zegapain thread.
EDIT 3 (May 01 2006): Dead thread. Rest in peace, thread!! _________________
