I'm trying to watch some anime on vlc and it keeps freezing the picture. The audio keeps playing, but the video is stuck in one spot for a while the messes up the next few minutes from leftover pixels. Anybody know what to do? _________________ [img:450:200:d0a28f8b61]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/9979.jpg[/img:d0a28f8b61]

yeah, the problem is that more codecs are coming out, and VLC only has so many hardwired into it
so while VLC was said to be a codec free media player, it is has been long enough that it needs more codecs
the only prob is, i don't know if its possible to add more to VLC
i ended up switching to Zoom Player, and getting the Combined Community Codec Pack
so far plays everything that i had troubles with in VLC
so i'd say either, see if a newer version of VLC has been released, or get have some other media players as backup _________________ [img:500:184:c0d8dc4eaa]http://kontek.net/LizardDude/ManagerSig20bacon.jpg[/img:c0d8dc4eaa] |

Well, these are just avi, mkv, and basically every file other than wmv(which is also starting to go bad). So I guess I'll find a different player since I already have vlc 0.8.4a. _________________ [img:450:200:d0a28f8b61]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/9979.jpg[/img:d0a28f8b61]

What's the file type and format?
I'm guessing it's a Mastroka h.264 format since it's quite common for people to have problem with this file. If your computer is slow or old, then it'd be hard for it process the video in real time. For me, i'd just convert it to other file type such as avi by using 3rd party softwares. _________________ What's yours is mine, what's mine is still mine. |

I had the same problem with VLC but it was only for one show. Princess Rouge. Not many people know about it and it never finished...only two episodes. So far I've had no problem with watching anime(besides the fact that now there's something wrong with my computer) while using Windows Media Player with various codecs. It can read .ogg, .mkv, etc. and no problems. _________________ The hardest person to forgive is yourself~ |

The issue here might be due to the specs of your computer/hardware drivers you are using. This has happened to me before with mkv files.
Solution (do one of the following)
1) Check how many free resources you have while you are playing the file. If you see too many resources being consumed close uneeded processes and terminate uneeded services.
2) Make sure you are using the latest drivers for your video card. If you are using an ATI Mobility card (like I have in my laptop) you can install the catalist drivers by appying them a little patch. Check the internet for more details. I did this to my computer and now video-based applications work like a charm (graphics performance has increased and I no longer get lag with applications).
3) Make sure your system meets the specs of the format you are attempting to use. If your system is below the specs consider upgrading.
If none of these works let me know. If you do not know how to check your free resources or close undeeded processes/services let me know. Make sure you include the operating system (with version) you are using.
Good luck, cheers,

i'm not the one to whom this is concerned, but i have had the same problems, and my comp can handle the video
3Ghz processor
1Gb 333Mhz RAM
256Mb Radeon 9600 XT
all chipset and card drivers are super up-to-date
when i first got the newest version of VLC these problems stopped, and then they gradually started coming back again
its not always the computers fault
VLC is great for watching older encodes, but when it comes to new ones, you really need to go with something else _________________ [img:500:184:c0d8dc4eaa]http://kontek.net/LizardDude/ManagerSig20bacon.jpg[/img:c0d8dc4eaa] |

That is odd... with those specs, your computer should be able to handle extreme loads. Choose one of the following and try it:
1) Try uninstalling and installing VLC again. Make sure you reset the configuration files too.
2) Change the renderer VLC uses. Try using a hardware-based renderer.
3) Check for uneeded processes and close them.
Let me know if that helps. |
