what makes you guys make a decision of buying a brand new game? sometimes it is a difficult choice to buy a game because sometimes they can be very costly. is it because...
-you read the reviews of a certain title and got good reviews
-played the sequel/prequel of the title and enjoyed it
-saw the commercial for it and it looked cool
-a friend recommands a certain title
-rent game first and then if enjoyed it, you go after the title
-buy the game for pretty cover(yes suprisingly i know people that has bought games because of the cover)
-is a huge fan or a supporter of a certain game company
are any of these above an influence for you to spend money on?
as for me, i rarely read reviews on games because obviously reviews are just personal opinions and not everyone share the same opinion. what influences me mostly is when i play a sequel/prequel and enjoyed it. as for new titles, i usually heard recommandations from either a friend or a gamestore employee then i check out the certain title by renting first and see how that goes. |

mine would be:
the reputation of the company during their past games that they created.
Replay Value! Will it be worth buying if finishing it a few days and getting nothing but to start from point A again?
Magazine reviews; I trust this one 50% of the time.
Rental...my number one friend to find out if it's wirth buying or not.
gameplay, graphics and controls; _________________

I buy the game that I waited for and the game that I wish to buy...
but for the new games sometimes I only pick the game wich I really wanted to play...like RPG or fighting...
also I do mind the game graphic... but even if it is good, usually I would check the game first what is it about... if it suite my genre then I'll reconsider to buy it...
and lastly I do buy games from famous publisher like square enix, EA, konami etc...

I never buy a game for its box art or cover.
Everything I buy, I've already read about it or researched about it before. If I come across one in a store, I make a decision based on the information I have.
Big factors that influences my decisions are:
-Character designs : This one is very important to me. Sometimes the character designer is considered. example: Takehito Harada (disgaea)
Or more importantly, if the characters themselves are interesting. <this is important for me when I look at fighting games.
-The squels: Things like breath of fire 1 2 3 4 5... FF1-12... yeah.. , but no sports plz.
-Reviews: always check with game critics online, and don't look at just one review, check out several.
Things I don't consider (and you shouldn't either):
-Franchise names: movies, anime, celebrities(50 cent? ugh)... Some might be good, but rarely, almost never. Having these kind of games would shame my game collection. Over the decades of bad impressions, franchise named games have earned a bad stereotype and caused me to avoid them. I almost curve away when walking near those in a store...
Some of the exceptions would be few star wars games.
It's interesting to note that majority of the "most wanted console game charts" of western countries consists of just those above. Movie, celebrity, sports franchises.

I liked how you got that chart Silverkitsune! the Bold lettered games are the ones that I've been waiting for out of the 20 games from Japan's top 20. _________________

Yep, I've played few star wars games, and only ones I enjoyed were the Knights of the old republic games. Those games are not too bad if you have even a slightest interest in Star wars universe. Sadly same thing cannot be said about other star wars games. But I tried hard to think of a franchise game that were actually "tolerable" and star wars was the only one I could think of. Raiden, you should try knights of the old republic if you like playing any of the western single player RPGs.
I got those charts from magicbox.
Though, comparing those two charts may not be too accurate since the European one is the "most popular(meaning sold the most)", and Japanese chart is the "most wanted"(probably by fans who know their stuff, not some kids and parents who go straight to a store and shop from looking at the covers.). _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

| I like games with intricate stoy lines so you sucked and you could play it for hours and hours. That way you get the most for your money. Mostly RPGs and Strategy games like thsee Fire Emblem games and Front Mission 4. |

usually when i decide on buying a game i do a few things
- read up info about the games concept, inovation, main focus
- video previews/demos
- look at the back of the display box in stores
- the games reviews may be the sway me from buying or not buying the game if i cant choose
- and if its a series, i usually make my choice from my experiences with the previous installments. |

| i take everything into account. First of all i have to own the console that its on. Second i look at reviews and watch G4 (because their is likely to be a review on it on x-play or something if it is a popular interest.) I want to see game footage. And also i want to know if the storyline is good. If its an rpg ill probably get it if its good. |
