As a kid: Astroboy, Kimba, Speed Racer mainly.
As a teen, there were some robot team and robot solo animes run locally, and I loved the live action Ultraman, Spectreman and Space Giants. Johnny Sako and his Flying Robot was pretty amusing. I also recall seeing some of the original Harlock series.
In the early 80's, on TV: Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years, Robotech, and Star Blazers. And there was a very cute series on USA called Honey Honey about a girl who's cat ate a fish with a jewel in it. And she fled all over Europe to keep the bad guys from cutting open her cat to get it. There was a Tuxedo Mask type thief character in it who liked Honey Honey, and he had a male cat who also had the hots for Honey Honey's cat. I'd love to find that anime now...
There were also those horrendously dubbed animes on Showtime, and also the Thunderbirds anime on Showtime.
Then of course, there were the anime cons and anime viewing rooms in the 80's and 90's. I'd have to look at my old con schedules and synopsis books for titles there, as there was so much I watched at them.
(Heh, I'm an old old school anime fan, eh? ) |

If I'm not mistaken, when I was a kid I watched on TV:
Dragon Ball
Robotech
Later on I began to see:
Dragon Ball Z
Pokemon
Ranma 1/2
Saint Seya
But one thing that I still remember was sometimes they play again the anime at a certain point. That was so irritating for me when the story was going to get interesting. |

| The very first anime I watched was Voltron, back in the 80's. Growing up I remember seeing Speed Racer, but it was on at some odd hour, since I dont remember seeing it very often. I watched the Toonami block back when it was still young- Robotech, Voltron, Ronin Warriors, Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z, and Tenchi Muyo. Pokemon fits in there somewhere as well, I stuck with it for quite a while. It wasnt until several years later though that I discovered what anime was, after stumbling across a fansub of Eva when I was in high school. |
