Ooooh, Alibata~ The syllabic alphabet of the Philippines~! I wonder if my studying of Hiragana/Katakana would've been easier if us Filipinos still used Alibata...
Oh, I'm Filipino (Half-German, Half-Chinese ancestry mother side), and like most Filipinos I'm bilingual: English and Tagalog (I don't know any other Filipino dialects).
I'm studying Nihongo right now that college is over. ^__^v _________________ EX-mod

i don't think it would make any significant difference.. or it might even confuse you more...
one reason why its not used anymore since it is not sufficient to spell out some of the newer words... it doesn't have a character for "CH" so screw trying to turn my name into alibata...
then there is the mix up of I with E and O with U... which is very much interchangeable in our language...
then there is the revised alibata with spanish influenced modifications... to make consonants be able to stand alone without a vowel that forms the syllable... yeah.. it gets complicated still.. but its nice to learn a few.. _________________

a few flips might know this.. unless you are not so in with your roots..
if not for those spaniards, we would also have our own characters, like that
alibata you got there, to have our own identity, like kanji for Chinese/Japanese, sanskrit in indian, arabic in the middle east and so on.
