Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King

Dragon Quest 8, another great game doveloped by level 5, and creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama.
I played this game at the end of last year, and finally finished all the sidequest, including the Dravonian Trial and Monster Arena...
Actually, the normal bosses is not that hard, but the optional bosses are quite tough, just like those extra bosses in Star Ocean 3...
The graphic is nice, I like the cel-shading graphic, and one of the most evident feature is the exploration...The field is vast, and there're no loading screen except while entering town or room...
The battle system is quite easy, allowing a fast battle, as well as character customization, to upgrade their skills...

Did you end the game with normal weapons or did you got to use the alchemy pot?
With what kind of monsters did you defeat the final boss in the monster arena, I got to rank A with Talos, Cyborg and Roborg but they're not strong enough for rank S.
If you can help me out on those matters I'm very gratefull to you.

Actually, you can beat the game without using alchemy pot (the weapon in Tyran Gully is strong enough to face Rhapthorne). But for the sidequest, using strong weapon is advisable...
To tell the truth, my party when I beat Rhapthorne before doing the sidequest, Hero is equipped with Liquid Metal Sword/Armor/Shield, Jessica with Gringham Whip/Divine Bustier/Goddes Shield, Angelo with Odin Bow/ Dragon Robe, and Yangus with Liquid Metal Armor/King Axe....Extremely easy to defeat him...

For the monster Arena, I really recommed using My Three Golem (Brickman, Goldman, Stoneman) to defeat him. I'm using this team to win Rank S, but only after many trial....it's because Mazin (the combine of the 3), even though it has the best stat, it still not immune to Hell Gladiator's sleep attacks...So it also need a little luck to win...

You can also try another setup, like using the same monster as he is using, especially those Hell Gladiator and Liquid Metal Slime....

Yes thank's for the tips.
I am playing the game right now and I just got the ship.
But I don't know where to go.
I went to neos, and a little island not on the map.
But other than that I don't know where to go.
My level keeps building up, now i'm at level 28.
And the monster arena is hard.
But I think this game rules!!!
On par with the ff's, and kindom hearts.

Going to Neos Island is not a bad idea, since there are Gold Golem which will give you >700 gold each...so you can become rich quite fast there...but I don't recommend buying the stuff there since there are better weapon/armor waiting for you soon enough...

For your destination, just head to the western continent, and land on any lanable place, then just explore until you find the right place...(If I'm not mistaken, it's Argonia or Mystical Spring).
About your lvl, it's ok to be at that lvl, or maybe you want to lvl up until lvl 30...

Thanx I finaly figured it out. I landed on the top of the western side and found where I needed to go. Now at level 34. And I now I have that cat bell.
So fun!!

is there an item in the game that attract monsters instead of using Yangus whistle?i'm trying to level-up my party.currently lvl35

For some reason I really didnt like this game. There was something about it that turned me off. The battle system was fine, art was good to look at, the story was decent, good amount of sidequests, but something just did not sit well with me. In all likely hood it was because every character reminded me of somebody in DBZ, and that I didnt like any characters personality. Other than those things, it was a great game. But I just didnt like it because of that. Yeah its frivilous, but its why I stopped playing it.

i'm leveling up at the "Royal Hunting Ground" somewhere near Argonia,there's a lot of metal slime here,but I could kill a few of them like 3/8 or less (every encounter,using Yangus's whistle)now I'm at lvl 37,just 3 more Mad

this is my 1st time playing this game.so is lvl 40 is enough to beat the final boss?i went in earlier after I got the magic mirror recharge and got my a$$ kick at lvl 28

sure it's enough, as long as you have good equipment to support you...(the best weapon purchasable is in tyran gully).
But if you want to have a little fun and get Jessica's Divine Bustier, Gringham Whip; Angelo's Odin Bow and Hero's Liquid Metal Sword...
Royal hunting ground...actually not much good monster there that will give much exp...

maybe i need new weapons,do you know any good formula for making weapon and where can I get the ingredients?

I think for your level, making and Razor Wing Boomerang (Edged Boomerang + Wing of Bat + Steel Scythe) or Flametang Boomerang (Swallowtail + Flame Shield) for Heroes can be a good idea, but if you prefer using sword, just buy it from the shop since it also good...

For Angelo, I think you can already make Cheiron's Bow (Eros' Bow + Power Shield)

For Jessica, Dragon Tail Whip (Snakeskin Whip + Dragon Scale + Dragon Scale) can be done...

btw, where are you right now...? Actually I don't really use Alchemy Pot at western continent to make weapon, instead I'm making armor/shield/accessories...

I'm trying to fight rapthorne later on,most of my weapon's are the basic that I get from shop,is that good enough?and I dont know where to get most of the item you mention (except for wing of bat)
