I didn't like the original version of the movie at all because it was just TOO open ended. I really like the Director's Cut version because it really gave the viewer something more to work with. I bought the Director's Cut because it really was that good (and I only own 12 DVDs...) _________________ PM some funny pick-up lines please > |

| I kinda hated the directors because it gave a lot more of the movie away earlier on. I guess you could say it dumbed it down. But, I still love the original. |

i found while watching it to be a pretty good movie, but when i saw the end it just ruined it for me. my thoughts were "How stupid" i mean really there mustav been another way. but as for the first 90% of the movie. it was great. _________________ DO THESE LOOK LIKE THE EYES OF A JIGOLO O_O !?

It dumbed it down so people like me could understand it a whole lot better.
(Without the directors cut we woudln't have known why he flooded the school, etc) _________________ PM some funny pick-up lines please > |

the director's cut still confused the hell out of me so i dont think giving that little bit away hurt the film. Jake Gyllenhaal did a great job playing the ultimate screwed up teen. A weaker performance would have left Donnie Darko an empty shell of a movie. The supporting performances were also pretty good.
i didnt buy the mumbo jumbo crap about tangent universes and artifacts because you couldnt have understood that from watching the movie.
i really dont get the significance of Chinese girl. |

| I like the original because it was open-ended at the end. Part of the fun is trying to figure it out, even though I had to watch it 3xs. Still I don't completely understand everything, but love the movie and will probably watch it another 3xs. I haven't seen the director's cut, yet. |

The funny thing is that for me when I see a good movie I can't watch it more than once (usually). I watched Donnie Darkko and I haven't been able to rent it or pick it up since. I imagine I'll need someone else who hasn't seen it to enthuse me to see it again.
I really enjoy psychological mysteries like this one tho. The original Matrix, Fight Club, etc.. |
