I like to name animals based on their personalities/characteristics. Makes it more identifiable for me, so it's more personal.
Like, for example, I had a friend whose kitten would get into everything, so she named her Mischief. My mom named her toy poodle Cinnamon because of the color of his hair. My brother had a hamster he called Einstein because it was so smart (could learn a new trick in just a few minutes).
And then there are other languages to consider for meaningful names, too. Like Jayoo (pronounced JAH-yoo) means "freedom" in Korean. Kibou and Mikomi both mean "hope" in Japanese (although Mikomi is more in reference to an expectation while Kibou is more towards a wish). Another friend of mind named her cat Natta which, in Norse, translates to "become night" --- her cat was gray, but my friend had found her with a bunch of ink spilled on her fur.
The stronger the meaning is for you in naming your pet, the stronger the influence. Whatever you identify with it is probably the best thing to go for. |
