Honestly that reporter has to do more research than that before saying lots of inaccurate conclusions. It's clear as day light that the reporter didnt chose his/her words very carefully , he or she must of had seen the wrong stuff"anime" . The reporter must not of known that THERE are LOTS of japanese animation that were banned in North America due to its highly violent sexual contents / too violent and my personal favorite "another kind of religion witch i would like not to say "
But come on , those girls in the anime are just for show thats all , that person should of understand that fact lol.

it is truly sad that a JOURNALIST doesn't do proper research on the topic he is writing about, i don't understand it. it is people like this that inspire the idea that anime is nothing but porn. in 8th grade i was ostrasized for reading "anime-porn" it was awful, i was made fun of for an entire year because no one around me was willing to actually pick a book up and check it out. the internet is a vast resource, geeZ, atleast research.
i got my manga at barnes and noble, seriously, how would i buy it, i was only 13?

Anything but sex
By ROYCE CHEAH and MICHAEL CHEANG
Will the crusades against pop culture ever cease? First, an indie music gig was raided because it was supposedly a black metal gathering sacrificing goats to Satan. Then, anime was generalised as “animation with sex”.
Would the next call be to ban Discovery Channel and National Geographic documentaries because they supposedly feature animal fornication?
For those in the dark, let us recap the issue. Recently, a Bahasa Malaysia daily front-paged a story about anime, generalising animation with sex as anime.
Unsurprisingly, the article caused a furore among anime fans, many of whom thought the generalisation of the word anime was a gross injustice to their passion.
The idea of popular kids anime shows like Doraemon, Pokemon and Oscar-winning masterpiece Spirited Away as being pornographic only goes to show the writer’s lack of understanding of the subject.
Christina Saw, retail supervisor of anime retailers Anime Tech, stressed that it is inaccurate and unacceptable to say that “animation with sex is more popularly known as anime”, and that the writer of the article should have been more careful with the words used.
“There are lots of explanations and history that define anime, although it is generally accepted worldwide to simply mean Japanese animation,” she said. “In Japan, it basically means anything that is animated, whether it is in Japanese, English or French.
“Outside Japan, however, anime is widely accepted to mean Japanese animation.”
According to Saw, Anime consists of many sub-genres, including samurai action (shows like Samurai X), ninja action (Naruto), mechanical or mecha action (Gundam), history (Legend of the Condor Hero) and sports and games (Yu Gi Oh!). Nevertheless, she admitted that there is also a sub-genre of anime that contains sexual elements, which is most commonly known as “hentai”.
“There are many terms being used to describe animation with sexual elements, depending on the type of sexual content and fantasies involved.”
Saw stressed that Anime Tech stores would not sell any sexual-oriented material, and neither would any other legitimate anime retailers.
With five retail outlets in Malaysia, Anime Tech is the largest retail chain store specialising in anime related merchandise. Their products range from anime DVDs, CDs, magazines and manga (Japanese comics) as well as anime-related toys and accessories.
And based on their success so far, it is perhaps safe to say that anime has a huge following in Malaysia. In fact, when the first ever Anime Festival was held in Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur, in 2003, anime fans turned up in droves, with more than 70,000 people packing the exhibition hall. The 25-year-old Saw has been a die-hard anime fan for five years now. “Anime is creative and challenges the mind. It opens our minds to whole new worlds and to different possibilities and it is entertaining as well,” she said. “To put it simply, when you fall in love with anime, there is no turning back.”

Anime fans say
Animehas a huge following in Malaysia. Some of the fans share their thoughts on the animation with sex issue:
Mohd Asnawi, 22, Malaysian studying in Japan, anime fan for 15 years.
“The newspaper’s generalisation was the worst thing I’ve ever heard. There is a clear difference between hentai and anime. I should know because I’ve done two thesis about it for my studies.”
Fazri, 21, student from Multimedia University, anime fan for 10 years.
“I was very disappointed with the newspaper report. Anime is a Japanese word that stands for Japanese animation, just like cartoons, and not animation with sex. The correct word for animation with sex is hentai, which is a sub-genre within anime.”
Tengku Mohd Umar Tengku Zairuddeen, 17, student.
“My father encouraged me and my siblings to watch (popular anime) Doraemon because of its educational value, and that can hardly be considered ‘animation with sex’.”
Lim Juen Wei, 21, student.
“There are a lot of anime shows on terrestrial TV, like Naruto, Gundam Wing and Detective Conan, which are highly popular among the younger generation. If such shows were unfit for children, why would TV stations screen them together with the other cartoons?”
Wei, 29, engineer from Penang.
“I do admit that there is sexually explicit animation out there, but the anime industry is far more than just the sum of all the hentai the newspaper found during its ‘research’.
“By writing that ill-researched article, it is dishonouring the efforts of auteurs like Miyazaki Hayao or Oshii Mamoru, who produce wholesome entertainment or expand anime’s frontiers by bringing in social commentary and criticism to their works." _________________
Its really bad that people don't lose their jobs over speaking on topics they know nothing about. I am not a professional journalist but when you write a story about something you should at least have the professionalism to research your topic thouroughly. I wonder if the anime community can sue for a statement like that lol. I want some money. Although I can't remember what site it is but there was a website that quoted that as the definition for anime.
Stuff like this makes me want to commit violent crimes in the name of anime... but that wouldn't get us anywhere...
This is just as bad as people blaming video games for violent crimes... guns dont kill people stupid people with guns kill people. - video games dont kill people stupid people with guns kill people. _________________ 912

Now I'm totally pissed off with KOSMO (note that I'm a Malaysian too). They said that they are one of the best daily newspaper since 2004, but since thay Sunday release, they had given a really bad impression toward myself...
I wonder what the editor did, did he realy do his job or just take it for granted, and just boistering about their credibility...
Now I would never ever buy KOSMO, even though soon they'll promote it in Johor...I'd rather jusy buting Stars or NST... _________________ It Shall Be Engraved Upon Your Very Soul
Another sad example of generalization where people get a glimpse of what they think is anime and goes around spreading personal opinions and thoughts, which is nothing more than only the tip of the iceberg of what the overall aspect of anime has to offer. Yes, in some anime, there is plenty of nudity and sex, but normally properly classed as 'hentai'. Also, some anime has presented us with some partial nudity (solely for fanservice) although not completely and this presentation may have been liable to be misconstrued as a part of 'unacceptable nudity' as well. Even so, to come up with vague and baseless accusations such as pointing out that anime is all about what was aforementioned would be nothing more than an act of folly and pettiness. Ridiculously laughable, people who write without facts would ultimately make a fool of themselves and ultimately, fans of anime can rest assure that this incident is nothing more than a benign one.
