Its sub-titles for me all the way. I prefer the way it was meant to be. Not some CHEAP (Usually the case in most of todays dubs) dubing done just to quickly supply a growing fan base in America with Anime. I don't like it.

It is all dependent on your taste. I like english dubs, but there are quite a few bad ones so just watch the first episode in english then in japanese and see which one you like more. Allow remember it is nice not to have to read anything when watching anime, this alone has made me overlook some flaws in dubs.

Living here in the Detroit area, most people I run into are either slow readers, illiterate, dislexic or just stupid. For them I CANNOT recommend subtitles.
I'd recommend slow moving pictures, sock puppets, flash cards, a pen lazer in the eye, or a ball of yarn. |

For me, it depends on whether I'm watching a casual episode to fill some time or if I'm seriously going through a series or movie. Sometimes I'm just lazy and I'll watch the dubbed version. But if I'm actually watching it, I'll go subbed. I think the closer to the original you can get, the closer to the intended experience you will achieve. If I have both options I try to watch subbed first and then dubbed.
I also have to say if it's a good dub cast, I might end up preferring it to the original.
Ultimately, of course, I hope to learn enough japanese that I won't need the subtitles at all. Just the pure original verison.
imho,

For me it depends on if the voices seem to match with each character and if they don't then I would go with the japanese voices with the english subtitles.

you know its funny, but for seceral animes, if you get the DVD and watch it with english audio and subtitles, they don't match which says to me that listening in english changes the dialogue of the anime.

Japanese with english subtitles. Cause its weird listening when their mouths don't seem to form the words right.
