So I have been reading the philosophies of Plato, “The Republic” and I would like to know the views of the rest of the community on what is justice in your minds?

For me justice is the view of the majority as which the good or bad is justice and depending upon the views of the people it is shown of what is justice. As in history tyrants have been claimed to be unjust but it is the same as in which human society is corrupt and as which, justice is not the views of the many but of the ones who can control the views of the people.

so, taking that idea from what you had just said, the mass media, if they wanted to, could twist and contort justice into their liking if possible. In airing those ideas, then the mass of people would then have that idea etched into their minds over time and believe that whatever was portrayed by the media would be considered justice. correct me if im wrong.

yes the saying of "Who barks the loudest will win the crowd" but if the barking has no meaning but just to make noises then it is just a bark, but if the voices have concerns of which the people can relate then the minds of the people will be shaped little by little until the view of the speaker is achieved.

One of the main reason US did not win Vietnam war was because of the media, so, yes.

wow, justice has lots its previous meaning to me... hehehe... in this world there is no absoluteness in justice... what seems just in one place may not seem just in the other... as you said justice is "influenced" weird how the media has this much power over a nation...

To think that the higher ups could use this influence whenever they want is scary... i know there are some knowledgable people that can think for themselves but there are sooo many ignorant ones out there that are easily swayed by the media and these are the majority of the people and these determine ultimately what is just and not...

hmm with regards to my country... i guess they have already used that power in more than one time...

well, you all probably know this, but i also define justice as a blind woamn holding a scale. however, in our country, she peeks. *shrugs* cant do anything about it. innocent people are convicted and rich smugglers are set free.

I think it depends on what scale your talking about. Personal justice, world justice etc (Couldn't come up with any more). And how you define justice. Justice is a pretty vague thing, when example an innocent gets punished for something he didn't do. We think he did it so for us it's jusitce while for that person it's just injustice. If we talk large scale justice then it get's even more vague since because of coruption who have power and money etc. Ofcource that dosen't mean it dosen't exist but it's not as clear. Then we have companys that make a living from animls like mink then we have people who thinks it's just wrong. If they sabotage their mink farms they won't be able to work and get money which may ruin their life, drive them out of their home and no money for anything. So does justice only involve us humans or does it involve all living? And what kind of metods are ok when enforcing justice.
Personal justice is much more easier to define it may be influenced by people around you and by media but still pretty easy to define. Simple what you think is right.
Well gonna stop now before I really start rambling on about this and then forget what I was talking about.

Justice is the legal way of getting revenge.

In other words, I don't quite believe in the way justice is currently being carried out in my country.

Justice and laws are all mostly based on morals....which in turn is usualy derived from religion....so culture plays a part on how we view "justice".....

I guess most of us in the west or a democratic country will view justice as somthing different from...let say....the Middle East....or Nazis.....

As for what Plato says.....yeah...I agree...its also how he viewed Democracy: The rule of the many at the expence of the few...
So if the majority think somthing is correct and allright/accepted....then in a way....it is correct and just.....

No, and If that's actually what Plato say's about Justice than he must not beleive in it at all. Plato was an Absolutist, so am I for the most part Justice is a pure standard is the Right the good, not something that people create or is dependent perception but instead something that is part of human nature. But really all justic is when the Good out weighs the bad.

My favorit example for justic to compare to example One when you kill someone to stop them for killing someone else, usually justified because the good of you saving a life outweighs the bad of killing. The other is takeing revenge killing a murdurer because he killed someone you love the bad of your killing usually dosn't outweight the good of getting rid of a murdure I like these cause the lie right in the grey area for right and wrong Justifed or unjustifed

Now the idea of Justice being dependent of people's veiws just dosn't make sense, what happens when people disagree in equal numbers does justic just cease to exsist for a little while? If it's just an idea in our heads? If all it is is a social construction then it souldn't have any value at all it's nothing. Truth is not a question of public opinion.

An easy way to understand Justice. Justice is whatever the hero think is right to punish the ones that they think is the evildoer.

Justice is either a blessing or a curse depending on who it is who is weilding it at the time. If it were some heartless dictator, then his or her idea of justice would be far different than yours or mine. Those who work under the guise of justice can often be misleading, like our leaders. Again, their idea of justice can be manipulated and it can evolve over time, for better or for worse.

I suppose justice in its purest non-manipulated form would be equality for all. Nobody would impede on anothers freedoms, and if they did they punishment would be equal to the crime. This logic of course has many kinks but its the closest thing to justice that I can think of.

That may be right in some cases, but have you ever seen the news or a cartoon(kinda bad example)? sometimes the "hero" is not always in the right mind and he/she may end up making a wrong choice in the end. so, from my point of view, it all depends on the society and how the mass media play a role in the people's lives. if it is a minor role, then someone or something else will just take over and manipulate the way of people's thinking. some may be purists and think that ANY wrong deed is to be delat with in a severe manner. it all depends on what is influencing the people.
