I would have to say probably Itachi because he does not even have to lift a finger to fight even Kakashi, but Rock Lee is also my favorite.

everyone always says itachi but recently kakashi now with the mangekyou and what not is pretty tough. I would say naruto has the capacity to be the strongest if he could master complete control over the kyubi

I would say Yondaime or Naruto (when he uses the power of the Nine-Tail Fox)

I heard that Yondaime is alive and that he is the leader of Akatsuki, but not sure if this rumour is legitimate. This also leads to the reason behind Itachi killing his antire clan, because he was threatened by Yondaime and for another reason or so.

Naruto is the strongest IMO. Sure he might not win all his fights, but he wins all the ones he must. He suffers from main character syndrome, where he can be this amazing fighter on day, and a bumbling idiot the next just for the sake of furthering to story. No matter what, naruto will always be the strongest because he has the most heart. Anything is possible for him because he has the resolve to do it. His way of the ninja is superior.
